Daphne Fowler

Daphne Fowler (née Hudson, born 1939) is a British retired bank secretary and game show champion who currently lives in Weston-super-Mare. Since taking early retirement, she has taken part in many televised game shows. She has won many titles, including winning Fifteen to One (twice), Going for Gold and Brain of Britain. She is currently taking part in the game show Eggheads, where she is one of the team of five game show champions challenged daily by a new quiz team.

The game shows she has appeared in include:

One of Fowler's best-known quirks is that she frequently strings opponents (and viewers) along by pretending to struggle with questions before giving the correct answer. She also has the unusual ability of being able to remember the dates of birth and death for a large number of famous people. It therefore comes as no surprise that Fowler's favourite subject is history.

Fowler revealed on Eggheads that she studied Theology at Exeter University for two years before dropping out, and in her student years she discovered Scrumpy cider.

Contestants on Eggheads are often guilty of prejudging Fowler based on her 'sweet old lady' appearance, and regularly choose her as their opponent for the sports round, only for the show's host to reveal that sport is actually her strongest subject.
