Dane George Franta was born 21 December, 1981 in New Richmond, Wisconsin to Wallace and Carol Franta. In the Spring of 1984 his parents along with his older sister Lynn Genz (Franta) moved to Spring Valley, Wisconsin from New Ricmond, WI. His younger brother Richard Franta was born in the summer of 1986. There he and his siblings worked on the family dairy farm.

Dane attended Spring Valley public schools and graduated from Spring Valley High School on 20 May 2000. There he spent much of his days involved in sports (track, basketball, cross country, & football) as well as active involvement in 4-H, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and class officer positions. The following fall he began his undergraduate work at the University of St. Thomas (UST) in St. Paul, Minnesota. He graduated from UST on 22 May 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. While attending UST Dane was enrolled as a cadet in the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AF ROTC). Upon graduation Dane was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force.

Shortly thereafter in July of 2004 Dane moved to the Washington D.C. area in his first AF assignment to Headquarters Air Force Office of Special Investigations (HQ AFOSI) on Andrews Air Force Base (AFB), Maryland. Lt Franta attended the Air & Space Basic Course (ASBC) at Maxwell AFB, AL from Sept 2004 thru Oct 2004. Lt Franta attended Basic Financial Management Officers Course (BFMOC) at Kessler AFB, MS during the Spring of 2005. On 16 June 2006 Dane was promoted to First Lieutenant.

During his first two and a half years of active duty service Lt Franta has been awarded numerous honors to include: Outstanding Contribution to Financial Management at a Major Command (MAJCOM) by an officer (Fiscal Year 2006), Headquarters AFOSI Company Grade Support Officer of the Year (Calendar year 2006), Company Grade Officer (CGO) of the Quarter 3 times {2006-2nd & 4th Qtrs, 2005-1st Qtr}, CGO Counsel President, and for Marksmanship.

Currently, Lt Franta is enrolled in the University of Oklahoma to earn his Master's degree in International Relations, www.goou.ou.edu. He currently resides in Alexandria, Virginia.
