Danny Meyer

Daniel "Danny" Meyer (b. 1958, St Louis) is a New York City restaurateur. Born in the midwest, portions of his childhood were spent traveling throughout Europe with his father's tour company, studying food and hospitality extensively in France and Italy (including such cities as Bordeaux, Rome, Paris, et al). In 1985, at the age of 27, he began his career as a restaurateur with the opening of Union Square Cafe.

His restaurants include:

  • Union Square Cafe (with Michael Romano)
  • Gramercy Tavern
  • Tabla (with Floyd Cardoz)
  • Blue Smoke
  • Eleven Madison Park
  • Shake Shack
  • The Modern
  • Cafe 2
  • Terrace 5.

Six (6) of his restaurants are in the Union Square area of Manhattan; the greenmarket there played a role in the situation of his restaurants.

Meyer has made numerous appearances at the annual Food & Wine Magazine Classic in Aspen, Colorado.
