Daniel "Dani" da Cruz Carvalho (born November 2, 1976, Lisbon) is a former Portuguese footballer. Dani began his career with local club Sporting Lisbon and went on to play for other European clubs such as West Ham United, Ajax, Benfica and Atlético Madrid. He had 9 caps for Portugal national football team, since 12 December 1995, in a 1-1 tie with England, to his more recent game, on 29 March 2000, in a 2-1 win over Denmark. He played at the 1996 Olympic Games, where Portugal reached 4 th place. Dani was seeking a professional contract after failing to sign for Celtic FC after an initial trial with the Scottish club in 2003. He announced his definitive retirement from football at an early age, in 2004. While still playing football, Dani also worked as a photomodel.
