Daniel J. Barrett

Daniel J. Barrett (born November 6, 1963) is a writer, software engineer, web site maintainer, musician, and Usenet personality. He is best known for his technology books, his work with progressive rock band Gentle Giant, and the imaginary computer game BLAZEMONGER.

Barrett has written a number of technical books on computer topics. The most well-known are Linux Pocket Guide and SSH, The Secure Shell: The Definitive Guide. His books have been translated into Czech, French, German, Hungarian, Japanese, Mandarin, Polish, and Russian.

Barrett created the official Gentle Giant Home Page on September 4, 1994.

In the 1990s, Barrett created the concept of BLAZEMONGER, [1] an imaginary computer game that spoofed the computing industry, and wrote approximately 100 articles about it.
