Daniel George Niculae (born October 6, 1982 in Bucharest, Romania) is a football striker who currently plays for AJ Auxerre. Daniel "Nico" Niculae, started his professional career at Rapid Bucureşti in 2000. After a short period playing for the B team in 2001, Nico proved he is one of most gifted players of the club. In the 2005-2006 UEFA Cup, he and Mugurel Buga formed one of the most powerful striker pair of the competition. He immediately caught the attention of such clubs as Hamburger SV, Internazionale Milano or AJ Auxerre. He was transferred to AJ Auxerre in the summer of 2006, for 3.3 million Euros.

When playing for Rapid, he was very close to the supporters, who idolized him for his passion and loyalty to the club. While injured, he would take place in the stands and lead the supporters during the match. He would also wear one of the club's supporter group's t-shirt underneath and display it after goals, or wave their flag after victories.

Niculae has also scored 2 goal in 13 games for Romania's national team, although he is not yet a regular.
