Daniel Carasso

Daniel Carasso, a member of the prominent Sephardic Jewish Carasso family and the son of Isaac Carasso, founded the United States Dannon company and built up the Groupe Danone into a multinational business.

Carasso took over the family yoghurt business in Spain and established Danone in France in 1929. During World War II, Daniel Carasso fled France for the United States and in 1942, founded the first American yogurt company in the Bronx, New York, with the Americanized name Dannon Milk Products, Inc. He returned to France in 1951.
