[edit] Plot
Said to have been largely inspired by contemporary Hanna-Barbera property Jonny Quest, the series centered around the adventures of a trio of explorers in an un-named tropical island group: Prof. Irwin Hayden, an archeologist; Lincoln "Link" Simmons, the professor's youthful assistant; and Leslie, the professor's blonde daughter, who serves as both a love-interest for Link and the series' token maiden-in-distress.
Several years earlier, the professor's brother (also an archeologist) disappeared in the same island chain while searching for the mythical lost city of Tubania.
They are joined on their quest by a huge black man named Morgan, who is explained to be a shipwrecked Merchant marine, and his teenage sidekick Chongo, who speaks only in a series of monkey-like chatters and birdcalls.
Pursued by both a group of bumbling, but heavily-armed modern day pirates lead by the murderous Captain Mu-Tan, as well as a tribe of hostile, cannabalistic natives known as the Skeleton Men, each episode was fraught with action, danger, and plenty of excitement, ending with a cliff-hanger that all but guaranteed that kids would tune-in for more next week.
