Dance Dance Revolution UNIVERSE (known as Dancing Stage Universe in Europe) is the first entry in the musical dancing genre for the Xbox 360. Developed by Konami, this Xbox 360-exclusive title was released on February 27, 2007.

The game features over 65 new songs, as well as new How to Play, Trial, and Super Easy modes for novice players. Additionally, the game features a new Relay Mode, where players switch off dancing in the middle of a song.

This title, just like the DDR Ultramix series, makes extensive use of Xbox Live, including online play, player ranking, and downloadable song packs via purchase through Microsoft Points.

This game also features music from Chris Brown, Verbalicious, Cascada, Jamiroquai, New Order, Goldfrapp, Kylie Minogue, The Sugarhill Gang, Depeche Mode, and others.

DDR Universe is among the first Xbox 360 titles that takes advantage of a Fall 2006 firmware update that adds 1080p display capability to the console. The game can also display in 480i, 480p, 1080i and 720p.

[edit] Criticism

The main criticism of Dance Dance Revolution Universe is its Quest Mode, which has been a part of the franchise since Dance Dance Revolution ULTRAMIX 3. The problems arise with the Quest Mode being the only way for players to unlock the songs in the game, which is a stark contrast from other games in the series where songs were unlocked by either buying the songs through a point system or by normal gameplay in the Arcade Mode. Another problem arises is the high level of difficulty of the computer A.I. and the fact that the mode is more catered towards advanced players of the game, which makes the mode very frustrating for novice players.

Another problem is seen though the Achievements screen of the game, as there are various errors in the screen, such as the method to get the song PARANOIA EVOLUTION (although the Achievements screen states that it can be unlocked by playing through the Challenge Mode in the game, in reality, it is unlocked by more gameplay in Quest Mode) and the misspelling of the word "championship" as "champoinship".
