Dana Klisanin (born 1964) is a transpersonal psychologist/writer/film-maker drawing from systems theory and integral theory who has advanced a theory of media known as evolutionary guidance media. Evolutionary guidance media is "designed both in content and context specifically for the purpose of guiding and/or facilitating the societal emergence of transpersonal consciousness - specifically planetary consciousness"(Klisanin, 2005)1. Planetary consciousness is defined as "the knowing as well as the feeling of the vital interdependence and essential oneness of humankind, and the conscious adoption of the ethics and the ethos that this entails" (Ervin László )2. Klisanin's pioneering work in evolutionary guidance media was conducted largely under the instruction of the late Béla H. Bánáthy and follows the lead of Dr. Bánáthy's theory of evolutionary guidance systems (EGS). Other key influences on her theory include the study of cross-cultural perspectives of human consciousness, altered states of consciousness, dreamwork, and mythology with Stanley Krippner , the study of Eastern philosophy under Donald Rothberg, and the study of integral psychology as explicated by Ken Wilber.
Klisanin received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Arkansas Tech University in 1996. She continued studying psychology and specifically transpersonal psychology at Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center and received a Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 2003. In 2006 Klisanin completed study at the New York Film Academy. She is currently working on a multi-media experiment designed to test the viability of evolutionary guidance media.
