Dan Smith (artist)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dan Smith is an illustrator and graphic artist known for his distinctive "SMIF" signature, and his work for Wizards of the Coast, FASA, White Wolf, Steve Jackson Games, Iron Crown, Hasbro, Nintendo, Namco and others. While known primarily as an illustrator, Dan Smith is also a designer of family card games, including Battle of the Bands.

Dan Smith's illustration style is influenced by a number of well-known comic book artists, especially Mike Mignola (Hellboy). His black-and-white work for GURPS became so prominent in the 1990s, he became the unofficial 'house artist'. One of his favorite techniques is to photograph friends in poses, project their images on paper and trace them, then augment the illustration, adding his own distinctive style. This allows friends to flip through roleplaying game books and see themselves on the pages dressed as wizards and secret agents.
