Dan Crane

Daniel Bever "Slamming Dan" Crane (born January 10, 1936) is an American politician. He served as a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives and served from 1979 to 1985.
Crane, a native of Cook County, Illinois, attended Chicago public schools, received his A.B. from Hillsdale College in 1958, graduated from Indiana University in 1963 with a degree in dentistry, did graduate work at the University of Michigan in 1964-1965, and was a practicing dentist before his entry into politics. Crane joined the United States Army in 1965, and served until 1970.
Crane resumed his dental practice after his military service, and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a Republican in 1978. He was re-elected in 1980 and in 1982.
After his 1982 re-election, he was implicated along with Rep. Gerry Studds in the 1983 Congressional page sex scandal. Crane was accused of having a consensual sexual relationship in 1980 with a 17-year-old female congressional page and was censured by the House in 1983. Crane admitted to the charge and issued profuse, tearful apologies. He was defeated for re-election in 1984 and returned to dentistry.
Crane is a resident of Danville, Illinois. He is the brother of Philip Crane, another former Republican congressman from Illinois.
