Damnation Festival is a metal festival, 'organised for the fans, by the fans'. The festival was started by a group of eight passionate music fans who were disappointed in the lack of extreme metal bands and UK talent appearing on major British festival line-ups, and therefore decided to create their own festival showcasing the very best of British Metal and a few other select bands.

[edit] 2005
The inaugural festival took place on October 16 2005 at Jilly's Rockworld in Manchester, and was a success, selling out completely and later on in the year earning fourth place in Terrorizer [1] Magazine's 2005 Reader Poll - Biggest Musical Event (behind only Download Festival, Wacken Open Air and Bloodstock '05 and ahead of Furyfest, Graspop, Ozzfest, Carling Weekend and Emperor reforming). The Bands that played the one day event were, on the Main Stage: Raging Speedhorn, Sikth, Charger, FourWayKill, The Inbreds, Forever Never and Allerjen. And on the Extreme Stage: Entombed, Gorerotted, Gutworm, Conquest of Steel, Mercury Rain, Nailed and Dawn of Chaos.

On October 15th extreme legends The Haunted and death metal overlords Akercocke will headline this year's Damnation Festival in the heart of Manchester. Ragga-punks Skindred and hardcore thrashers Stampin' Ground will join them for the explosive gig, due to hit Jilly's Rockworld and Music Box in just over a fortnight from now.
Festival spokesman Gavin McInally said: "With the exclusive capture of The Haunted, Akercocke and arguably the UK's hottest live band right now in Skindred, Damnation Festival now offers fans the most diverse and genuinely exciting bill the UK will see this year.
"Italian jazz, raw punk and extreme death, all by seasoned and highly respected live performers - it's going to be an event to remember.
"Despite the legendary big names, we haven't lost focus on why Damnation Festival was born, and again, this year will also see some of the finest rising talent from our shores wow fans come October 15th. Evile, SpeedTheory, Kingsize Blues, Head-On, Murder One, Biomechanical and Mistress are a pick of England's finest, and we've even extended a warm invite to one of Scotland's top extreme bands in Madman Is Absolute."
The second instalment of UK-focussed metal will again take place across two stages in Manchester's Jilly's Rockworld and Music Box. Fourteen bands will grace the heavy Jägermeister Stage and the even heavier Terrorizer Stage.
A Terrorizer spokesman said: "We are proud to once again be involved, as the most brutal metal acts on the planet converge upon Manchester this October for Damnation Festival 2006.
"It's one more giant nail in the coffin of corporate rock."
