While growing up he was actively involved in sports, representing the Northern Territory in Rugby League, Rugby Union and Australian Rules Football. Later coached St Mary's Football Club to three premierships.

He currently works as Head Coach of the Northern Territory Institute of Sport, Australian Rules Program and is keenly involved with looking after and developing the Junior and Youth footballers of the Territory.

Contesting for the marginal Federal seat of Solomon for the Australian Labor Party after having won an extremely close preselection process which included a dubious letter of support from Kevin Rudd[1], revelations that he was only been in the party for less than six months at the time of preselection, his views on abortion and factional unrest at balloting irregularities.

Despite all this Damian is endeavouring to learn as much as he is able about the issues in the lead up to the 2007 Federal Election in his effort to unseat the Country Liberal Party sitting member Dave Tollner.
