[edit] Story

The melodrama features an awkward, shy girl named Rosita Amado (Rodríguez), who struggles to find love, fulfillment and acceptance. She grew up with humble relatives who are idol worshippers. When her grandfather -- who was known as "The Chocolate King" -- dies, she is the only person left who knows the secret Mayan chocolate recipe that built his corporate empire.

Rosita has a curvaceous body, but also a big nose and buck teeth. She falls madly in love with charming chocolatier Bruce Remington (Puerto Rican singer Carlos Ponce), the handsome heir to a candy factory on the verge of bankruptcy. Yet his bitter conniving mother plots against the young girl, hoping to take away her inheritance and the secret recipe.

Meanwhile, a brutal, dangerous man from the past threatens Rosita's fresh start. She finds romance, deception and betrayal as she searches for true happiness in a new world. Rosita finds herself caught between two powerful forces: love and chocolate.

[edit] Production Notes

Dame Chocolate's cast also includes María Antonieta de las Nieves, Héctor Suárez, Kristina Lilley, Khotán, Ricardo Chávez, and Karla Monroig, among others. Génesis Rodríguez, daughter of Venezuelan singer José Luis Rodríguez, was made less attractive with a false nose and teeth to play Rosita. This Telemundo-produced story is directed by Luis Manzo and Aurelio Valcarcel is executive producer. It is filmed in Miami.

Telemundo made product placement deals with The Clorox Company, Ford and IKEA to promote their brands during the show. IKEA designed two bedroom sets for the show, "to reflect the culturally distinct style of [two] Latina characters." and displayed the furnishings in selected stores. The promotion also involves "program vignettes" during the broadcast, featuring actresses Karla Monroig and Kristina Lilley.[1]

As with most of its other soap operas, Telemundo broadcasts English subtitles as closed captions on CC3. The network plans to run Dame Chocolate for 130 weekday episodes at 7 p.m. (ET/PT), over 26 weeks, with the final episode expected on August 31, 2007. This show is also known as Sweet Secret.[2]
