Damala Xagare

Damala Xagare from the root word "Damal" which means acacia woodland in Somali, is a growing town in Sanaag region of Somalia. It has a population of well over 40,000. The town is located in Hadeed Plateau, a tract of land that covers the middle of a large area of the Sool Plateau, beginning south of Carmaale village and extending as far as the depression zone south of Xingalool town. Most of this area is covered by gypsum and gypsiferous soils with minor areas of limestone.
Because ot its patches of acacia trees, The land is used for communal grazing of livestock and for wildlife; local communities practice wildlife conservation in the region.
The town is highly remembered for its defensive victory over the SNM onslaught, a clan based movement that unsuccessfully sought to oust former Somali president.
Damala Xagare is a city of warrior cult where poetic cum brave legends like AFDHAAL(1820) was born and raised. Its residents are generally very humble and generous. The cult of ferocious courage and aggressiveness is considered to be the norm among its residents and as far as southern Somalia.
