[edit] History of Daltons Weekly

Established during the late 1860's by Mr Herbert Dalton, DaltonsWeekly was initially a single broad sheet listing 'Accommodation for Gentleman' in the then fashionable middle class suburbs around Vauxhall in South London. (Est. 138 years)

The paper proved very successful, but regrettably within 2 years of starting the paper, Mr Dalton died, leaving it to his brother, who was a butcher in Westerham, Kent and had no interest in publishing so sold the paper on to 2 brothers by the name of ‘Hebert’. Their vested interest in the paper's continuing is obvious and they paid the princely sum of £100 to buy it outright.

For the next 102 years, Daltons Weekly remained a family business owned by the Hebert's. During this period it grew and developed into the type of format we are now familiar with.

In June 1972 the paper was purchased by Morgan Grampian Ltd and the 3 main market areas of Holidays, Property and Businesses were focussed on and the unrelated sectors were closed down.

In 1987 Morgan-Grampian was acquired by United Business Media (then known as United News and Media) in the United Advertising Publications (UAP) division which was then transferred into the CMPi portfolio in December 2005 as part of the Specialist Division/Consumer group.
