Dalton is a fictional character from the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, appearing during season two. A bespectacled vampire, he was portrayed by Eric Saiet. His character was quite similar to that of Absalom, the Anointed One's right-hand vampire in "When She Was Bad".

He helped Spike and Drusilla by trying to find a mystical cure to heal Dru. He instigates a robbery to steal the Du Lac cross, evading the Slayer, Buffy Summers, in the process. He tries to decipher the Du Lac manuscript but struggles with the translation. Later Spike is preparing to dust him for his failure to translate the book and find a cure for Drusilla, but Dru stops Spike short of such violence when she explains that the book is in code and requires a key. Dalton and other vampires steal the key from a crypt, and Dalton once again evades Buffy. He returns to Spike and Dru and cracks the code, translating a cure for Drusilla.

Several weeks later he brings a package to Spike and Dru, pieces of the Judge, a powerful demonic being who can reform if all his pieces are brought together. Bringing a further piece, an arm of the Judge, he loses it to the Scooby Gang. Drusilla plans to kill him but Spike saves his life providing he returns all the pieces of the Judge. He does so.

When the Judge, (who kills living things by absorbing the humanity within them), is finally re-formed he points to Dalton, "This one - is full of feeling. He reads!". This is apparently a "taint" of humanity. The Judge burns Dalton to dust.

[edit] Trivia

  • He appears only in Season 2; "What's My Line, Part One", and "Surprise"
  • The shooting script of "What's My Line, Part One" describes him as "sort of an anti-Giles".
  • At various points Spike refers to him as "big brains", "smart guy", and "a wanker"
