Dale Boone
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dale Boone is a top-ranked competitive eater from Atlanta, Georgia, and is a member of the International Federation of Competitive Eating (home page). Boone's tumultuous eating career began in 2002 on the Nathan's hot dog circuit, where he accumulated a disqualification and a regional win before hitting "The Deuce," (20 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes) in Coney Island. Boone followed this achievement by setting a new world record, 28 reindeer sausage in 12 minutes, in Anchorage, AK, later finishing a strong second in Alaska's Hibernation Cup Finals. A solid performance in cannoli and a victory in pelemeni secured his position as a force in eating.
The 2003 season was filled with challenges for Boone, causing some to utter under their breath that Boone has a hair-trigger epiglotis. However, a win at the Ultimate Eating Tournament at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C., quieted the talk, at least temporarily. But it was the 84 Lumber baked bean eating circuit that gave Boone the boost he needed, providing him with the platform for three wins against the sport's greats: Ed Jarvis, Eric Booker and Sonya Thomas.
Boone is probably the "Most hated man in Competitive Eating". He makes sure that he offends every competitor before each competition, and is more well-known for his "reversals of fortune" ( vomiting), and his bombastic nature than his much disputed eating abilities. Dale, before his eating glory, was known for being "thrown off" the airwaves when he would call in incoherent tirades to Atlanta's local sports talk shows. His treatment of Carlene Lefevre in the Atlanta 2005 contest hit a new low, and some are wondering if he is the "Mike Tyson" of his sport - more talk than action. One good thing about Boone, he has inspired several new Georgia combatants determined to lower his rankings. Among those are Loren "Bubba" Yarborogh, Larry "the Legend" McNeil, and SuperPaul Barlow - all now ranked in the IFOCE's top fifty contenders. Boone has delivered few notable performances in recent years. In fact, he fell to Carlene LeFevre in 2005's hotly contested Nathan's qualifier in Atlanta.
Boone is not a married man. He distributes Hindu language feature films and claims to be a direct descendant of Daniel Boone. Boone has maintained a reputation as a combative competitor who has disrupted some eating events with verbal excess.
