Hi there,

I see that you are a pro-Cannabis Wikipedian so I hope this will be of some interest to you.

I've started a Marijuana wiki (aka The Sticky Wiki) which I think you might be interested in. I'm hoping you can help me get started with this project. Whereas lots of articles about weed get speedy-deleted on Wikipedia, they would be totally cool over at MarijuanaWiki. But really I want the site to be more of a marijuana community than merely an encyclopedia.

To give you an example, I want to have city guides about where to score, find pot-friendly cafes, marijuana events, and what represents a good price in that city. Etc. (You can check out the featured article: "Toronto" to see what I mean). I also want to have grow diaries and marijuana blogs. All in all, basically more communal than encyclopedic.

I am in need of admins/moderators, and people experienced with MediaWiki to help build policy, categories, and templates, etc. If you'd be interested in helping me with this project, the URL is MarijuanaWiki

there's a pretty good chance that you know more about this than i do, but what is your source for the bit on will reid using a fuzz-wah in the jmc? it's more out of personal curiosity to be honest. i can't recall any of their songs that use a Wah wah pedal, and it seemed so much more obvious for him to use the FY-2, which i've heard elsewhere. in the mean time, i'll change it to just "Shin-ei fuzzboxes" to be more general. Thanks for uploading Image:Questions and answers CD2.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

I see that you moved the Mogwai album Young Team back to Mogwai Young Team. However, the band's record store is not the most reliable source information about the album title. A quick google search returns more results for "Young Team" separate from "Mogwai" than "Mogwai Young Team". Also, according to Mogwai's record label's website, the album is called "Young Team". So even "official" discographies are at odds. I say it should be kept as "Young Team". That's much better looking, and is how the album is more commonly referred to. From Mogwai.co.uk's FAQ, written by the band members:

The band themselves refer to the album as "Mogwai Young Team", so it is considered the official, proper title. Whether the track titles on the site are in lower case or not doesn't have anything to do with the fact that the album's called "Mogwai Young Team". "Young Team" is a scottish term which refers to a gang of youths, and they always have their town's name in their title, eg. CYT = Craiglang Young Team. "Young Team" doesn't make sense on it's own. Also, The Beatle's 1968 album "The Beatles" is commonly referred to as "The White Album", but it's wikipedia page is still The Beatles. Why should "Mogwai Young Team" be any different? Daisy-berkowitz 00:34, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

My point about the lowercase track names was that the link you provided cannot be taken as a 100%, canonical source of Mogwai's discography. The site is horribly inconsistent, and is run by "Resonance", not Mogwai themselves. Even considering the meaning of the term "young team", that doesn't mean it always has to have the hometown in front of it. If there is an unspecified "young team", then there wouldn't be a hometown in front. I say we open a vote on the talk page to find a general consensus. Evan Reyes 00:39, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

Hello!

Thanks for uploading some pictures to Wikipedia. I wanted to make sure you were aware of some of the requirements and good practices for uploaded images.

  • Pick an image name.
When uploading an image, pick a file name that is descriptive, and unique. Remember that many images may be uploaded about the same topic, and remember that names are case sensitive.
  • Source the image.
On the image description page, explain where the image came from. If you created the image yourself, then say so. If it's from the web, give a URL. If it's a screenshot of a movie or game, or a scan from a book, give the title.
  • Provide copyright and license information.
This part is a little bit trickier, but it's very important. The copyright of the image generally belongs to whomever created it.
If it's a photograph you took, or an image you created (modifying an image that already exists doesn't count) in software like Photoshop or GIMP, then you own the copyright. To upload it to Wikipedia, you must agree to license it under the GFDL (which allows anyone to use it, but requires that they give credit to the original author and requires that any further edit to the image be licensed under the GFDL as well) or release it into the public domain (which allows anyone to use it for any purpose without restriction.) Do this by placing an appropriate tag on the image description page, like {{GFDL}} or {{PD-self}}. Be sure to mention that you created the image. If you're using {{PD-self}}, you may also want to use {{NoRightsReserved}}, since there is some dispute as to whether one may grant items into the public domain.
If you didn't create the image, or the copyright somehow belongs to another party (like a screenshot, which you might "create", but the copyright belongs to the author of the movie or video game), then you need to find another tag that describes the copyright status of the image. Images used on Wikipedia need to be free for our use and the use of sites which reproduce our content. This means that images cannot have a restriction such as "only for use by Wikipedia", or "for non-commercial use only", or "for educational use". Images without a free license may be usable in certain articles under fair use, but such a use should be justified on the image description page.
  • Describe the image.
To another reader, the image may not be immediately understood. A caption in an article doesn't explain the image to a visitor who sees it on its image page. Put a brief explanation of what is in the image on the image description page, similar to what you might include in a caption on an article.

I notice you've been removing some review dates from album infoboxes, replacing them with "link", most recently on Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. While "link" is more common in practice than review dates for album reviews, review dates are actually preferred, and "link" should only be used if no review date can be found, as per WP:ALBUM#Professional reviews. I'm quite fond of the stage shows. I already have the radio series, yeah, It's great... I think that maybe the main five characters could each have a page of their own... Maybe not though. Thanks! I'm avoiding coursework so I have a lot of procrastinable time on my hands. And the main 5 do deserve their own pages in my opinion, just there isn't enough to put there yet (vince had one but there was nothing on it apart from the odd "LOL VINCE IZ HOTTT" and noone bothered to turn it into a healty article to it got speedily deleted). Having said that I think that the hitcher and the bongo brothers do have enough, but they're only minor characters and so require less.

The character descriptions are really not up to scratch to be honest though, so making sure that it's all coherent and not garbled is probably the priority. They need to be character descriptions rather than lists of jokes or the garbled mess most of them are at the moment. Wowser - good work. Now what do do with the main page now all the information is all over... but excellent job. Just one thing though, I'm not sure about the fair use on Image:Autoboosh.the.list.cover.jpg - do you have to meet both the following criteria?

  • to illustrate the publication of the issue of the magazine in question
  • with the publication name either visible on the image itself or written in the image description above

If both have to be satisfied - then nothing, it will have to be deleted as otherwise it's a breach of copyright. If only one has to hold then its safe indefinitely. However, Flikr is a good place to find images of live shows by people that will be willing to release the copyright of their photos if the images does get deleted and needs a replacement. ...adam...
