[edit] Open content controversy

After originally finding Daimonin on the List of open source games page, I visited the web site and found out in their forums that they no longer supplied maps with their game server. They have also altered the game client recently to forbid it from contacting other game servers. This game was a derivative of Crossfire, originally, and that game's client supports multiple servers and releases full map content. I felt it useful to note these changes especially given the fact that people from the Crossfire community will likely visit here. This note has been changed and a NPOV tag added, I presume by someone in the Daimonin community. I became unfortunately involved in a flame war of sorts in that community, partially due to the changes I made here, so I am going to recuse myself from any further edits on this page. I would suggest someone outside the Daimonin community go over the page and clean it up so that the NPOV tag can be removed. Kurt 22:52, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

This "controversy" comes from the confusion of the free software project Daimonin, and the active on-line game Daimonin. The project is hosted on sourceforge with no secrets and all open content. The active instance of the game, hosted on http://www.daimonin.net, uses the open content plus a majority of closed content. Perhaps this can be emphasized better in the article.
