What are the aztecs social classes—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.251.61.44 (talk • contribs) 2 November 2006.

This November 2006 comment by 69.251.61.44 was the only post by this user in WP. Does it make any sense or would it be better to remove it (WP is no soapbox for obscure posts)? —Cesar Tort 07:05, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
I think we agree that the comment you deleted and Maunus restored is pretty empty of meaning.
Still, Maunus is right, The general principle is to archive Talk Pages rather than to delete comments. Since this Talk Page is so short, it's hardly worth archiving. I've seen far worse stuff on Talk Pages.

[edit] Why?

Why doesn’t this article has the {{Aztec}} template? —Cesar Tort 06:20, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Agreed with you both about the archiving protocol. Please forget that minor issue but I must ask again: Why doesn’t this article has the Aztec template? —Cesar Tort 07:54, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Speaking for myself, the template should appear in the articles which listed on the template, and I have held off adding this article to it (the template) because frankly (in its original form, leastways) it was in pretty poor shape and wanted to keep it in 'quarantine' until something could be done about it. This article along with a bunch of others were created in toto by some one-time visitors here, I suspect as part of some school assignment. They've been kept because they are valid topics and contain some useful info, but stood in need of some drastic overhauling. Richard has since made some improvements and swapped some things around between articles, but there's more to be done.
Another inhibition has been we haven't really worked out the overlaps and what's the most complementary way to break out the subtopics, so have been unsure whether this 'daily life' article will stay, or be subsumed into different ones.
More generally, with hundreds of Meso- and Aztec-related articles to attend to and only a handful of regular contributors in this area, it sometimes takes a while before someone has the opportunity to take stock and address the overall 'navigation' and schema across different articles (let alone improve the article content itself). If this 'daily life' article is to remain then it can and should appear on the {aztec} topical navigation template. I guess if we think better of the overall topical structure later on, it can all be amended.--cjllw | TALK 08:13, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

(edit conflict with Cesar Tort's comment below)

I agree with CJ. My first reaction when this article popped up on my watchlist was "Huh? I don't remember that article title." My next reaction was "Why does this article exist? Does it duplicate the material in Aztec society? Should it be merged into Aztec society?"
The improvements that CJ is talking about were made by me and other editors last summer but it's been many months since I was an active editor of the Aztec-related articles. These days, I mostly watch for vandalism. As a result, I have forgotten how the framework is laid out and exactly how Aztec society and Daily life in the Aztec Empire are supposed to relate to each other.
I think it would be useful for us to revisit these two articles as well as the Aztec article and come up with a rational framework for presenting information to the reader in ever-increasing amounts of detail depending on the reader's level of interest.

There is a whole book about daily life in the Aztec empire, Jacques Soustelle’s. The Aztec society article on the other hand lacks some subjects that are mentioned here. It wouldn’t be a good idea to remove Daily life in the Aztec Empire altogether. Why not simply merge it with Aztec society and overhaul the whole thing? —Cesar Tort 08:29, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
If you have the time and energy to work on these articles, I support you fully. If you propose merging this article with Aztec society, it's probably OK although I think the one issue to be concerned about is that the Aztec society article was getting long and so there is some value in looking for a way to split that up. Before going ahead with the merge, try to look for other alternatives and consider their relative merits.

The education subject is fundamental to understand the Aztecs, and this important topic is missing in the other article.
Yes: long articles make bad reading. Aztec society may have a very brief section of dietary habits, schooling and games with a template “Main article” pointing to other articles. There’s already an article about the Mesoamerican ball game so the game section in Daily life in the Aztec Empire ought to be shortened.
Sooner or later an Aztec fan will come to WP and do the job… Cesar Tort 09:00, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
