Daily Times (Pakistan)

The Daily Times is an English language Pakistani newspaper. Launched on April 9, 2002, Daily Times (DT), which is simultaneously published from Lahore and Karachi, is edited by Pakistan’s renowned, articulate and bold journalist, Najam Sethi. Sarfaraz Ahmed is the Resident Editor of Daily Times at Karachi. DT is represented by Rana Qaiser in Islamabad, Iqbal Khatak in Peshawar (NWFP) and Malik Siraj Akbar in Quetta (Balochistan). Ifthakar Ghalani (New Delhi, India) and Khalid Hassan (Washington,USA) are two of the noted journalists working with Daily Times as its Foreign Correspondents.

Daily Times is widely recognized as a newspaper that advocates liberal and secular ideas. Its colorfulness and unique layout makes it a very different newspaper from the rest of its Pakistani counterparts. DT has gained popularity as well as notoriety due to some of its highly controversial editorials. For example, DT came under blistering criticism of the ethnic Pashtoon community at the end of 2006 when it published a highly controversial editorial “ Say no to Naswar”.

The main contributors on DT’s Op-Ed Page are Professor Dr. Hassan Askari Rizvi, Irfan Hussain, Khalid Ahmed, Khalid Hassan, Ejaz Haider, Mehreen Zehra-Malik,Tanveer Ahmed Khan, Dr. Ayasha Siddiqa, Munir Attaullah and several others.
