David Clifford Davies, some times known as Dai Davies, (born November 26, 1959) is the Independent MP for Blaenau Gwent. He was elected in a by election on June 29, 2006 following the death of independent MP Peter Law, for whom he had previously been campaign manager.

He is also the leader of Blaenau Gwent Peoples Voice, a left wing political party that has announced intentions to expand outside his own constituency (http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/display.var.1233264.0.peoples_voice_gets_louder.php). In early 2007, BGPV have been in negotiations with John Marek and Ron Davies' Forward Wales Party to form an electoral alliance.[citation needed] An alliance which critics say undermines their 'independent' status.

The election result was the first occasion an independent had held a seat occupied by a previous independent in a by-election since Sir C.V.F. Townshend held The Wrekin in 1920.

Dai Davies has recently come under attack for his voting record in the Commons, attending only 9% of votes. Constituents regularly question Mr Davies' effectiveness as an MP in the pages of the Gwent Gazette.[citation needed]

In the House of Commons, two other MPs have the same phonetic name as him, David Davies is a Welsh Conservative MP elected in 2005, and David Davis is an English Conservative MP, and runner-up in their latest leadership election.
