[edit] Brahmin Contributions to Other Religions

You prodded Brahmin Contributions to Other Religions, but someone has removed the tag, seemingly because it's a religious topic and they are of the opinion that no religious topic should ever be deleted. I've listed the article for deletion through AFD, so if you'd like to contribute to that debate please head over to the AfD page and have at it. (also, I shamelessly stole your deletion reasons. Hope that's ok).

[edit] Need your opinion

Hello, I think you would be helpful in this. I am having serious issues regarding user Paul Raj and his edits in various wikipedia articles regarding Ayyavazhi. Quite frankly, I perceive his edits as using wikipedia as a platform to promote his ideas. He has made entries for Ayyavazhi in various articles including Eastern philosophies, Eastern religions, Dharmic religions, India, Tamil people etc. My two serious issues with his additions are a) I do not believe the few and very limited citations he is using to support his edits. b) I do not trust his intentions. He has already made edits in bad faith and been banned for it. More recently, he alphabtized the list of religions in Eastern philosophy to make Ayyavazhi come on top of the page. I also dispute his claim that Ayyavazhi can be truly considered as a different religion and not another sect of Hinduism. Anyways, even if it can be considered as a religion, I find that quite often he gives undue weight to it. I have always found you knowledgeable in such matters from your edits in Hinduism and was wondering if you can give your point of view. I am getting increasingly frustrated by it and its evident in the fact that I recently reverted few of his additions to other articles. Maybe I am wrong and need to step back? *shrugs*. However, I really feel like he is trying to invent something on wikipedia. Quite a few other editors have taken up this issue with him but he tends to repeat the same things over and over till the other party gives in. I have started a short discussion on the AV talk page. Thanks for any input you can provide.--Blacksun 16:03, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sehgal

In Template:Castes and Tribes of Punjab you removed Seth and added Sehgal, while it's easy to understand why you picked Sehgal, I was intent on keeping the listing to the Khatri Char Ghar (House of four), which is Kapoor, Mehra, Khanna and Seth. Before that, everyone was listing their surnames or someone elses surnames and the template was this. With many more names listed in List of Khatri surnames, it could have been overloaded with redlinks, so I put it back to broad categories, which is why I have no removed Sehgal from the listing. Nobleeagle [TALK] [C] 07:01, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

I don't know that much about these things actually. You seem to have more knowledge than me, I suggest you take a look and do a clenup on Khatri as well and I hope you also make changes to the template. I'm not the best qualified to do it and I've known it since I started working with the template. Nobleeagle [TALK] [C] 23:33, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Would you please help me with correct Wiki procedures?

Thank you for your help so far. I am new to Wikipedia and am trying to learn correct style and citation methods. I have read the links you gave me but it is a lot to absorb. Would you please look at this new page and help me understand correct citation methods for books (I used the book template) and also for correct crosslinking? For example, how do I make it link back to the main Gaṇeśa article?

I understand the the discussions about IAST have been underway for some time and I will try to get up to speed on the dialog.

[edit] Devanāgarī version of your name

I am grateful for your help in getting me started with Wiki. I hope you will correct my understanding of your name. I wish to address you correctly and hope you take no offence by this question. On your User:DaGizza page your name is shown as Girik Sehgal (गिरिक सहगल) but I notice that the transliteration does not match the Devanāgarī. Perhaps there is a typo in one or the other, or perhaps you use a different transliteration method? The IAST transliteration of गिरिक सहगल is Girika Sahagala. The Devanāgarī version of Girik Sehgal would be गिरिक् सेह्गल् showing the vowels correctly. The small vowel marks are hard to see if the font is small, so perhaps these two versions look the same on your screen, but the Unicode sequences are different. Sanskrit:गिरिः (giriḥ) can mean "venerable, elevated, worshipful" as an honorific title given to Sannyāsins and I am wondering if that is related to your name. :) Buddhipriya 21:30, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] dishonesty

No offencce, but what you're doing is not very honest.

You're pretending to build consensus verbelly while edit warring on Pakistani artiles.Take the posts you sent me saying you'll stay out of Indo-Pakistani disputes while secretly edit warring on articles such as Panini and adding Indian tags to Pakistani articles like you did on the talkpage Sindhi literature. me being part Sindhi makes it emotional for me when Sindhi related history is claimed by Indians.

I don't mean to be critical of you,but such acts contradict your statements staying out of the dispute or trying to help it. It becomes very tough for me to assume good faith in someone who makes statements of his/her intentions while doing just the opposite.

Please stop.If you want to keep indianizing Pakistani articles, atleast be honest about it rather than claiming you want to stay out of the dispute.

Thanks.

Nadirali نادرالی

If the tags are not meant to claim anything, then why are they being used for that?If you guys want to use the Indian tag to get Indian users to contribute to,then we may as well add a Bulgarian tag and invite Bulgarian users to contribute to it. Pakistan and Afghanistan both share the same groups such as Pathans and Balouchis. On the contrary,Pakistan has more in common with Iran and Afghanistan but it's quite obvious why Afghans or Iranians don't place tags on Pakistani articles. The fact that Sindh is not related to India in anyway,is all the more reason to keep the tag off. Labelling Pakistanis as Indians makes us feel uncomfertable since it goes against the facts that they are 2 different people which also goes against this, which clearly askes for more specification,or in other words calling ancient Pakistanis South Asian is not specific enough. You keep claiming Pakistani history by calling Pinani "ancient indian",when infact he had nothing to do with India at all. No one is jumping into "dirty waters" here, but by stating you don't want to get into a dispute while labelling Pakistanis as "indians" in your edit wars and adding the tags which don't belong there at all,is going against your statemnts. Im going to be a bit busy these days and won't be discussing these things any further then I already have, but bottom line is you shouldn't be saying you want to keep "neutral" while proceeding to call Pinani "anceint indian" in your edit wars or adding these indian tags.

There's no need to respond to this.I just wanted to make it clear, not get into another baseless debate.Nadirali نادرالی

The Defender of the Wiki Barnstar
DaGizza deserves this for defending the wiki path and being strong enough and brave enough to stand up against those who would violate the neutrality of Wikipedia. Much Respect to you Brother. --Kathanar 17:07, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks User:DaGizza for the beautiful verses, we should all find inspiration for our actions from them. I've noticed a few of the travails you had to go through, and I was quite impressed by your fortitude, as not only one side, but the other side was giving you grief as well. Talk about the rock and the hard place! :) You handled yourself quite well though. Keep up the great work, it is noticed and applauded!--Kathanar 14:13, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] cricket

Changing the subject, you seem to be a cricket fan.In that case I thought maybe we should add in the cricket article about the standoff last summer that took place between the an English refferee and the Pakistan cricket team.

The dispute started when the Pakistan cricket team was winning and when the refferee accussed them of tamering with the ball. They then refused to play.According to what I know, such a dispute never took place in the history of cricket before. If so it definately deserves a place in the article as it's a historic record.--Nadirali نادرالی

It's okay the article has already been written on that.Maybe you can help on it.--Nadirali نادرالی

To be honest with you I'm not such a cricket fan.But if there is something I see that I can contribute to any cricket article,I will do so.Regards.--Nadirali نادرالی

[edit] WPRL Article Improvement Drive

Gday Girik. Hope everything's going well at school. I've spammed a number of userpages recently with this so I've put it here too just in case you're interested. Look, I've noticed you're a regular on rugby league articles, particulary NRL ones. I need your advice on something I'm thinking of starting up on the project. Many WikiProjects have Article Improvement Drives which have different levels of success. I'm thinking of starting one up for this one too, but instead of voting on an article I would rather strive to improve one NRL club every fortnight and bring it up very close to featured status. Now it seems as though there'd be a lot of work involved, but there are also a lot of club fans out there who'd probably be willing to participate. Basically there are 30 weeks in the NRL season and there are 15 club pages that are not yet featured. I propose that we all have a schedule to work on one new article every second round, in alphabetical order. By the end of the season hopefully we will have 15 near-complete, if not complete articles. My only concern at this stage is the dedication of editors to help out other team pages that they are not interested in. Basically in order to get the support of editors like these, we need a few leaders in the project. If you are willing to dedicate a bit of your time every week into this and if you have any further suggestions, could you let me know at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rugby league/Article improvement drive? Thanks, --06:00, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] heraat mubharak

Thank you for the mahashivaraatari (heraat in kashmir) wishes. I have actually not been taking a "wiki-break" in the usual sense of the word: I have re-assigned the time I normally spend working on my watchlist here to providing a transliteration of the sanskrit text, "Bhavaani naama sahasra stutih" on wikisource. As I intend to do it in the IAST scheme without any errors, this has consumed my wikipedia time for quite a while. I will surely work on the articles you've requested as soon as possible, however. ॐ नमःशिवाय Śaiva Sujīt सुजीत ॐ 09:28, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Logos

All fair use images need a fair use rationale, and just about all (there might be a few exceptions) need to be of low resolution. Logos are no different. ShadowHalo 04:11, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Do the logos have to be in low resolution?--Thugchildz

Then can you please resize Image:Image-WCL.jpg, Image:Cricket World Cup 2007.png and Image:Icc-cwc2007 mascot.jpg to make them little bit smaller than current size; I don't have the software(photoshop etc) to resize them. Please resize them and upload them afterwards. Its the only objection for the cwc FA.--Thugchildz

For future reference, you don't need any special software; just about any image-editing program (including MS Paint) can do it. I've uploaded low resolution versions, but they still need detailed fair use rationales (if you don't know exactly what needs to be there, there's information at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline). [edit] Who is a Hindu? "

Girik, can you take a look at this section of the Hindu article. I recently edited it (along with some edits the Lead and Intro sections), mainly to remove the generic commentary and unreferenced information. The earlier version IMO, was not necessarily incorrect, but really unencyclopedic and source of frequent edit wars and POV pushing. Would appreciate your comments on the newer version - the article still needs a lot of work to get it even to a WP:GA standard! Abecedare 03:47, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
