Dagwood sandwich
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Dagwood sandwich is a thick multi-layered sandwich made up of a wide variety of meats, cheeses, and condiments. It was named after Dagwood Bumstead, a character in the comic strip Blondie, who frequently made enormous sandwiches.
It is not exactly clear what the actual contents of a Dagwood are, but such a sandwich seems to involve large quantities and varieties of cold cuts, sliced cheese, and notably additional slices of bread.
"Dagwood sandwich" has been included in Webster's New World Dictionary.
In May 2006, plans for a Blondie-themed restaurant chain were announced. The Dagwood will be sold as a 1.5-pound sandwich.
