Dagwood Bumstead

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dagwood Bumstead is a fictional character in the comic strip Blondie, who was introduced prior to February 17, 1933. He came from a wealthy family who disowned him for marrying below his class. He has since worked hard at J.C. Dithers & Company (currently as the construction company's webmaster) to support his family. Dagwood is sometimes clumsy like a dog and he also likes his Dagwood sandwich. His favorite things in life include: food, Blondie, his kids, naps on the sofa, and long, uninterrupted baths. His constant problems are door-to-door salesmen, rude telemarketers and store salespeople, crashing into the mailman (Mr. Beasley), being prepared before the carpool leaves without him, getting to work on time, and his boss, Mr. J.C. Dithers. His obsession with his famous Dagwood sandwich has been diagnosed as an eating disorder and is a source of constant irritation to his wife. The only person who seems to understand him is the paperboy who's been told not to hang around with him anymore.

Arthur Lake played Dagwood Bumstead in the Blondie film series from 1938-1950.
Will Hutchins played Dagwood Bumstead in a TV version of the comic strip Blondie in 1968-1969.
