Dagonet

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Arthurian Legend, "Sir" Dagonet was King Arthur's fool (court jester). He believed himself to be a brave warrior but actually was a coward. Oddly enough, in the 2004 film adaptation King Arthur, Dagonet was portrayed as truly being a brave, self-sacrificing knight, being killed by the Saxons while breaking apart a frozen lake. His actions saved the rest of the knights.

In Tennyson's Idyll's of the King "Sir" Dagonet appears in "The Last Tournament." The jester was the only one of the court who could foresee the coming doom of the kingdom. He mocked the faithless knights who had broken their vows, and declared that although he and Arthur could hear the music of God's plan, they could not.
