Dae Hyuk Lee is a descendant of the Lee clan. His ancestors originally came from North Korea. His great grandparents were given the choice between North or South Korea. He is now officially a South Korean citizen.

His name, meaning "star," was given to him by his grandfather, a pastor, so that Dae-hyuk would shine and soon contribute something to the world that his grandparents could not.
