[edit] BBC DVD releases
The BBC released two "Best of" DVD sets in October 2001 and September 2002, but it wasn't until September 2004 that the full series began to be released, with the first series and the surviving spisodes of the second series being released first, along with the documentary Missing Presumed Wiped. As of March 2007, eight out of nine series have been released, although the hour-long special "The Battle of the Giants" is yet to be included. The DVDs also include short individual biographical documentaries about the characters and their actors called We Are The Boys, comprising material directed by Kevin Davies on the set of the BBC's Britain's Best Sitcom competition. Still to be released are the the 9th complete series, as well as the Christmas specials. The Christmas specials are intended to be released on a 10th volume to co-incide with the 40th anniversary of Dads Army in 2008.
