Da Xiao is a field officer rank within the People's Liberation Army, it ranks above colonels and below major generals. Literally meaning senior colonel, this rank is equivalent to Brigadier General in U.S. militaries, and Brigadier in British and Commonwealth militaries. In the People's Liberation Army Navy, this rank is equivalent to Commodore. This rank does not exist in the military of the Republic of China.

Senior colonels are division and brigade commanders or political commissars in the PLA. Major generals (shaojiang) almost never command divisions; they are more likely to be corps commanders or military region deputy commanders.
