actually, WARP did a number of post-D titles for the 3DO that not only didn't feature laura, and at least one was brought over to the states (the puzzle game flopon-kun the space mutant was turned into TRIP'D). as for the US version of D being "tamed" only the US 3DO version of the game is missing a brief scene of a character about to bite into an arm. otherwise, the playstation and saturn versions actually have MORE content than the original japanese version. in fact, the playstation import was called "D: Complete Graphics" and is exactly the same as the US version.

as for D no shokotaku: director's cut, the game also featured the trailer to the original version of D2, which was an entirely different game than appeared later on the dreamcast. there was also a "sound novel" bonus that told laura's story up to the moment the first game begins and a number of trailers (E3, TGS) for the original 3DO version of D.
