Dōbutsu no Mori (どうぶつの森, Dōbutsu no Mori^? lit. "Animal Forest") is an anime film based on the Animal Crossing series of video games. The director is Joujin Shimurah who has worked previously on Master Keaton and Shin Angyo Joshi. It will retain the themes of the video game, in which a villager moves to a town and interacts with the animal villagers. It opened in theaters in Japan on December 16, 2006. Release dates for other countries have not yet been announced^[1].

Characters include Ai (Female Character) along with Kapp'n, Tom Nook, Pascal, Mabel and Sable Able, Mr. Resetti, Tortimer, K.K. Slider, Brewster, Blathers, Celeste, Apollo, Margie, Alfonso, Rosie, Whitney, Hopper, Saruo (Monkey), as well as a young human boy who loves to cosplay and collecting bugs and treasures.

Kapp'n driving his cab just like in Animal Crossing: Wild World.

By watching the trailer, it appears that the film is widely based on Animal Crossing: Wild World, due to the fact that Kapp'n only drives a Taxi in the Nintendo DS game^[2]. In the GameCube version, he only has a boat.

It has also been revealed that Celeste is much shorter than Blathers.

One day, a young girl called Ai moves into the Animal Village. While working at Tom Nook's shop "Nook's Cranny" she begins her living life away from her family. To begin with, she doesn't know left from right, but under the guidance of Mayor Tortimer, the angry (but correct) Mr. Resetti and the wandering musician K.K. Slider among others, she is eventually accepted as a member of the village. Along the way she meets Margie, who dreams of being a designer, and the straight-talking Rosie, The Girl who Likes to Become a Fashoner, Whitney the Wolf who's in love with Apollo, Soon and the four of them become good friends.

One spring evening Ai finds a bottle on the beach. She picks it up, opens it and finds a mysterious message written inside. “Plant a Conifer and on the night of the Snow Festival something miraculous will happen”

Time passes and soon it's winter. The Snow Festival. This year it will be one very special day and send an uproar throughout the village. Ai, following the instructions in that mysterious message, has planted a Conifer. What kind of miracle will happen on the night of the Snow Festival...?
