Volmerswerth is a borough in western Düsseldorf, District 3.
Volmerswerth is bordered by the river Rhine and the boroughs Hamm, Bilk and Flehe.
The island Volmerswerth was mentioned for the first time in 1173. The owner of the little fishing settlement was the monastery Schwarzrheindorf in that time. Volmerswerth got its own church in the year 1300. In 1456 Volmerswerth got its own justice court, but in 1487 it became a part of Düsseldorf. In 1856 the new-gothic church was constructed.
Volmerswerth is one part of Düsseldorf, that still has some agricultural land. On the weekends a lot of people go to Volmerswerth for walking, inline-skating and bicycling along the Rhine.
