"Día de Enero" (Spanish for January day) is the third single released from Shakira's 2005 album Fijación Oral 1, following "La Tortura" and "No".

[edit] Song information

Written and composed by the singer, "Día de Enero" is a love song that tells about how she met her boyfriend, Antonio de la Rúa on a January day. The song also makes reference to two famous comics characters "Mutt & Jeff" known in Spanish as "Eneas & Benitín."

The music video for the song shows Shakira walking through a beach barefoot, during the sunset. It was directed by "No" and "Don't Bother" director, Jaume de Laiguana.

[edit] Chart performance

The song peaked within the Top 40 in the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart and also made it to number one on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart (which is equivalent to #101). The song never made it to the Hot 100, most likely because it was starting to get recognition at the same time as the more popular "Hips Don't Lie". The song fared well elsewhere, especially in South America.

The song also holds the "bad honor" of being one of Shakira's lowest charting singles on the Hot Latin Tracks charts, behind only 2002's "Te Dejo Madrid" (which peaked at #45).
