[edit] Format
The league has 14 teams, and the top 8 teams at the end of the regular season advance to the final play-offs.
For the 2006-07 season another package of new rules will be implemented in the Extraliga, which is scheduled to begin on September 8. Three points, instead of two, will be awarded for a win and as a result of this overtime and, if necessary, penalty shots will be used to decide games.
The post-season setup will changed too. After the regular season, the teams that finished 7th to 10th will play a pre-quarter final playoff series (best-of-five) to determine who will join the top six into the quarter finals (best-of-seven).
There will also be only one assist credited for each goal instead of two, which will affect the league statistics.
