Czaplic

Czaplic - Ruthenian family (Kierdeja coat of arms) of the Tartarian origin (converted to the Orthodox confession) from Volhynia region of Grand Duchy of Lithuania. One of Czaplic family estates was Szpanow (ukr. Shpaniv, near present Rivne - Ukraine) – the place who gave the name “Szpanowski” to the family. Since 1569 (Lublin Union) Czaplic family joined the gentry of the Crown of the Polish Kingdom. The family includes many personalities of the social, political and religious movements of the Polish 17-18 c.:

Jan Czaplic (Kiev castellan, d. 1604),
Aleksander Czaplic-Szpanowski (Arian connected with the Kisielin community, expelled from Poland in 1660 r. to Prussia, d. 1664),
Józef Czaplic (Orthodox bishop of Lutsk, d. 1654),
Celestyn Czaplic (Master of the Hunt of the Crown, Marshal of Polish Sejm, d. 1804),

and a renegate, who choose the service to the Russian Tsar
