Cyprus entered the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for three times. They had chosen a song for 2005 too, but Rena Kiriakidi's 'Tsirko' was said to be too similar to another song, therefore Cyprus withdrew that year. Although, the Cypriot viewers were able to watch the show and vote.
In January 2007, CyBC announced that they had asked EBU to consider them to host the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2008.
