Cymmer (Afan Valley)

Cymmer is a small village in south Wales. The village is set on a hillside in the picturesque Afan Valley. Cymmer can also be spelled "Cymer" with the omission of one "m." Both spellings are considered correct, however.
Local public houses include The Refreshment Rooms and a working men's club entitled The Coronation Club in the part of Cymmer that is colloquially referred to as "Bottom Cymmer." Amenities include a library, a community swimming pool, a sports hall and a primary and secondary school. Cymmer also boasts a police station and a small fire station as well as several bed and breakfasts. There is also an exhibition on the history of the area held near the petrol filling station. The exhibition is owned and maintained by David Teague who runs a local news agents' near the exhibit. Cymmer has two churches, although the usage of the two is virtually nil. One of the churches has now been boarded up and padlocked to stop youths entering and vandalising the site.
Cymmer is also an electoral ward coterminus with the village in Neath Port Talbot county borough.
