Thanks

Hi Cyberjunkie. Thanks for your welcome message. - and thanks for fixing up the link to my contributions. I don't mind at all :-) And now I have worked out what was wrong with the formatting too. - cheers Adz 8 July 2005 09:45 (UTC)

Welcoming template

Hi there! I was told you're one of the frequent welcomers of new users. I was wondering - since this is a rather frequently asked question, would you please add a link to Wikipedia:Merge to your welcoming template? Thanks. (by the way - since mainspace has {{welcome}} already, wouldn't it be logical to put your version in userspace? Not that I mind really but just a thought). Radiant_>|< 20:46, July 10, 2005 (UTC)

Howdy Radiant. Thank you for the recomendation vis-à-vis 'userfying' my welcoming message. As it happens, I have been intending to do so for a while now. Had I been aware in April (when I created it) that I could transinclude from userspace, I would have done so. The only thing holding me back from making the conversion is, frankly, laziness (and by extension, the fact that it would be longer to type :P). With regards to adding a link to Merge, I am undecided. Given the general nature of my message, and because it is for new users (who I doubt are actually merging articles - I, myself, have done so only 3 times in my time here), I don't see it as necessary. However, I will consider your request further. This search returns other users' welcome messages that you might want to visit. Thanks, -- Cyberjunkie TALK 09:49, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

Image:Light2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Light2.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Until a more informative tag is provided, it will be listed as {{no source}} or {{no license}}. Could you add a better tag to let us know its source and/or copyright status? If you made the image yourself, an easy way to deal with this is add {{GFDL}} if you're willing to release it under the GFDL. Alternatively, you could release all rights to it by adding {{NoRightsReserved}}. This would allow anyone to do whatever they wish with your image, without exceptions. However, if it isn't your own image, you need to specify what free license it was distributed under. You can find a list of the tags here. If it was not distributed under a free license, but you claim fair use, add {{fairuse}} but you need to substantiate your claim by explaining why you think it's fair use. If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images by posting to my talk page. If you do this, I can tag them for you. Thanks. RedWolf 04:58, July 12, 2005 (UTC)

your signature

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that you may want to check your signature in preferences. I think it is missing </ b>, after the last font tag. See WP Req for Admin revision. All the text after your signature was reduced, including the edit tabs. Was weird there for a minute, till I figured it out. I tried to recreate the malfunction, but it seemed to only happen every once in awhile. If I can recreate it, I'll send you a screenshot. Salut. Who?¿? 06:10, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I didn’t notice the tag was incomplete or that it was causing such problems for Wikipedia. I must admit, the example you showed me is quite bizarre – who’d of thunk it!? Anyways, I was growing tired of having a formatted signature (and I’m over the whole flag thing), so I have changed back to a more common “username and talk” version, thus rectifying the problem. Thanks again for taking the time to let me know (and for providing screenshots!). --Cyberjunkie | Talk 06:40, 13 July 2005 (UTC)
You're very welcome. I think it only did it in rare circumstances, I had to dig through pages to figure out where it forced the change. I really did like your sig tho. Who?¿? 06:43, 13 July 2005 (UTC)
I've got it recorded if I ever decide to return to it - I'll be sure to include the final </b> next time.--Cyberjunkie | Talk 06:45, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind welcome from me also. I've listed myself under Queensland, my home for the last few years, but I'll be interested in doing stuff about Adelaide, where I was born and grew up.

Commonwealth Realms

Hi, what's the background for you removing the Commonwealth Realms "link" in the Australia article? I think it is a good link to have, but am unaware of background discussion... --Anubis1975 11:58, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

Hi Anubis. Yes, there is quite an extensive background to the issue of not only the Commonwealth Realm template, but also the Commonwealth of Nations template. Unfortunately most of the discussion regarding them is now archived or no longer active. Long story short, Astrotrain and SimonP have been engaged in a vicious cycle of adding and removing them. A while back, Astrotrain began adding the Commonwealths Realm template to all related articles and SimonP began removing both it and the already established Commonwealth of Nations template as per WikiProject Country guidelines. I saw the Commonwealth Realms template as an unnecesary duplication of the Commonwealth of Nations template, and after SimonP removed both, I and other editors returned CoN. Eventually, we at the Australia article reconciled to remove both templates and place them in relevant sub-articles (CR went to Queen of Australia and CoN to Foreign relations of Australia). It appears that Astrotrain is still popping up every now and then to re-add it to various articles. I lost track of the discussion and assumed (as you would) it had been resolved. Apparently not. Still, the issues' persistence isn't really of any great consequence in the grand scheme of Wikipedia things. Here are some links to the various places discussion has occurred: this link, in particular, shows a compilation of links to discussion; this link takes you to the template talk-page; and this link is to my entrance into the fray. Some links may no longer be current, so you'll have to refer to archives. --Cyberjunkie | Talk 15:51, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

NZ etc

Thanks for setting up the to do table on NZ, it should be pretty easy to get it up to FAC standard now that I have experience doing so. On the Tasmanian Devil, the biology stuff is actually pretty comprehensive without going into the esoteric measurement of testicle temperature and milk composition :), but the conservation measures and cultural impacts could be expanded on, Island Fox is a FA I worked on recently and is about the same length as the devil article. Could you help keep an eye on User:Tony1's edits to Australia, they're not necessarily all bad, but they are grammatically unusual, I revernted a heap and I'm to sleepy to fix the last lot. Goodnight. --nixie 14:37, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

"Commonwealth of"

I removed this term because it is obsolete. I removed 'Commonwealth of' from the title of the country because, although embedded in the federal constitution, this term is a hangover from colonial days, and made the opening more difficult to read, particularly for foreigners.

Tony 15:01, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

PS: Would you kindly edit manually rather than performing a global reversion and wasting all of my work. You can't possibly disagree with all of the edits.

Tony 15:04, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

Well, that's odd. It's not obosolete in the slightest, and is in every day usage in reference to the Commonwealth (ie federal) Government and its instrumentalities. Also, I find your claim that it is "a hangover from the colonial days" particularly odd given it first found usage at Federation and has no connexions to any of the colonies (and province). The article has been made a feauture, meaning it has been identified by many Wikipedians as one of our best. Not once during the extensive FAC process was the article described "difficult to read" or incomprehensible. The full style is used only sparingly in the article, and generally only to differentiate the Commonwealth (as an legal enitity/polity) from Australia at large. This is an important distinction, and I ask you not to change it again. On the issue of reversion, I'll have you know that I painstakingly picked through your edits to ensure the good got through.
Aside from that, I welcome you to Wikipedia and thank you for your interest in Australia. I encourage you to review the links in Redwolf's message and respect our Policies and Guidelines. Additionally, I invite you to check out Australian resources, like The Australia Wikiportal, Australian Wikipedians' Notice Board, Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight, New Australian Articles and Australian stub articles. You can list yourself at Australian Wikipedians.
Thanks,--Cyberjunkie | Talk 15:22, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

User_talk:211.28.51.58

I saw that you put the welcome message on this user's page. it looks like he updated population statistics for several cities Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, then I noticed that ambi reverted the user's update to one of the Australian election pages, I don't have an easy way to verify those updated population figures. do they look OK to you? it could be some sneaky vandalism, as well, changing the numbers very subtly. clarkk 14:23, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

It appears the statistical revisions by this user were incorrect. However, according to ABS statistics of on LGA's per state (vide NSW; VIC; QLD) the initial figures weren't completely accurate. I'll go through the associated articles and fix those. As for metropolitan populations, I'm having difficulty locating them in the ABS's re-designed website (when did that happen!?). But a jump of almost two hundred thousand (in Brisbane at least) seems unlikely. I posted the anon template to the user's talk page before ambi reverted them; had I known this, I might not have been so welcoming. In any case, the edits are relatively harmless. I think I'll revert the changes to the metropolitan populations as well.--Cyberjunkie | Talk 14:59, 19 July 2005 (UTC)
you might want to check the user's contributions, there may have been other cities, I think Canberra was also changed. clarkk 15:16, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

Thank you very much

Hi, I just wanted to express my thanks for recently reverting vandalism to my user page (your assumption was right, it was genuine vandalism). The reason I say this is because I was (unfortunately) away from Wikipedia for a couple of days, and therefore unable to monitor my User page. I appreciate your efforts very much. -- Daverocks 12:32, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

CJ In Australia you can attend the polling booth, get your name registered as having attended, then depart the booth. This fulfills your legal requirement. Could you pls re-edit compulsory voting to reflect this? Mccready 03:37, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

I'll have a go a rewording the offending sentence as soon as I can. I'm presently engaged in various areas of Wikipedia, so you'll have to bear with me. Just on compulsory voting however, it appears you made a factually incorrect change diff. I suspect you know very well that most countries do not have compulsory voting systems, and that this was just a mistake. If not, could you explain your reasoning?--Cyberjunkie | Talk 10:34, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

Yes, my error. Thannks for bringing it to my attention. I was working on two pages (the other being Plurality electoral system where only 43 of 191 countries use that anti-democratic system. Looking forward to your amendments given my first comment. Mccready 17:32, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

VSU

RE you comment "rvt retagging by Sorcha (whom, I suspect, is also Mandurahmike and 203.173.56.36)". You're a little paranoid. I'm 203.173.56.36 and I give you my word I have never created a proper wikipedia account. I am not Sorcha or Mandurahmike and do not have a clue who they are. I could tell you my real name, but you probably wouldn't believe that either. 203.166.251.128 12:20, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

I just found the situation a little suspicious (and I still do). You say you "have never created a proper Wikipedia account". Might I suggest, then, that you create one? By having an account, and therefore, an identity of sorts, users like me will be far more inclined to take you seriously. As it was, both you and Mandurahmike had edit histories confined solely to the VSU article (save one edit by Mandurahmike to LPA). As for your real name, I don't care either way. One can be personally anonymous and also credible, though it helps to have an pseudonym for reasons stated. --Cyberjunkie | Talk 12:37, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
Well if you must know, I have edited different pages in the past. From memory I've done 'top posting', 'Atmel AVR', 'Universal Student Unionism', 'HP49' among others. I have been particulary interested in VSU lately because the 9th of August is D-day. My internet connection has been playing up lately so my IP has been changing. 203.166.251.128 12:44, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

Howdy. I want to thank you for supporting my RFA. I wasn't going to respond to any votes until it closed, but I just noticed that you're studying at Flinders Uni in Adelaide. That's far out because I spent a semester there last fall as a study-abroad student! I had a nice experience there, and made some friends in the Uni hall whom I now miss terribly. I also took a philosophy class from Lynda Burns, Epistemology and Metaphysics, which is probably the best philosophy class I've had. I hope your luck is as good as mine, and I'll see you around Wikipedia! --malathion talk 19:57, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

ABC rewrite

How do you move the article from my sandbox to 'rewrite', including all the formatting, image, etc?

Tony 07:28, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

PS Is there any way of getting around being logged off by the system as I edit. What's the time limit?

Tony 07:30, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for that; is it possible to append a flag to the main article, as a courtesy; otherwise, there might be two efforts in parallel. Tony

Technically, yes. However, there exists no notice for this purpose and it seems that prevailing mood on Wikipedia is against placing editor-related notices in articles. I don’t share this view, but some say it tarnishes Wikipedia’s image as an encyclopaedia by displaying “behind-the-scenes” work. The only template I can think of that serves a related function is {{inuse}} (see Template talk:Inuse for other varieties), which an editor places on the article whilst editing. This just advise others' not to try and edit whilst you are, and thus, prevents edit conflicts. I've added a link to the ABC talk page so that others can access it, but perhaps you might like to post a comment notifying people of the page, and perhaps request they partake.
As for staying logged-in, the only thing I can recommend is checking the "Remember me" box next time you log in. So long as you don't delete/clear your cookies, Wikipedia should keep you logged-on. When I edit from university, I don't use "remember me" and sometimes get logged-out. I don't know why this happens, but it is annoying and I can understand your frustration.
Thanks, --Cyberjunkie | Talk 09:46, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, will do later tonight. What about one of those editor-only texts enclosed in < and >, as advice at the top of the ABC edit box? Tony 10:06, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

That's a good idea. --Cyberjunkie | Talk 10:23, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

Wrote some more of this ABC draft, but when I tried to save it, I got the red warning at the top 'this is only a preview, and has not been saved', as though I'd hit the 'Preview' button. So I've saved the new text in Word, pending your advice. Tony 06:49, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

The only thing I can suggest is hit "save" again. I think its just a bug in the wiki-software that causes that to happen. It has happened to me before, as well. If after saving again you are returned to preview, open a new edit box and transfer your changes to it and save. In any case, you have a back-up in Word. Good luck, --Cyberjunkie | Talk 06:58, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

Oh dear, user Wm has objected to the rewriting of the ABC article in a separate place, and has removed my note to editors advising them of the arrangement. What to do? Can you deal with him?

Tony 12:28, 7 August 2005 (UTC)

Cyberjunkie: Wm has now sent me a note about the ABC Rewrite. Can you deal with this, or advise me on strategy?Tony 03:08, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

Why can't the article be edited in place? The wiki is a system specifically devised so that people can collaboratively work on articles in place. To fiddle with this and set up a new system where the article is to be edited away from where it is should normally be expeced to be found seems to be against this principle.
The re-write shold be done in place because:
  • It is not necessarily obvious to a casual visitor that they should navigate to a new position to edit the page
  • It is not possible to monitor the changes being using the difference engine
  • It is totally unnecessary - the page can already easily be edited in place.
Any new article will have to be accepted - it is safer to make the changes incrementally so that they can be reviewed by comparison to the previous version as is the normal practise.--Wm 22:02, 8 August 2005 (UTC)

Hello Wm. The reason I created a temporary sub-page for Tony was because his rewrite was leaving the article, as viewed by our readers, in a ghastly state (refer Revision as of 23:51, 4 August 2005). It was not appropriate, in my view, to leave the article with notices such as "WORK IN PROGRESS.." placed randomly throughout. To rectify this, I created a temporary sub-page in which Tony could go about the (much needed) rewrite at his own pace. This is not an uncommon thing on Wikipedia. Users wanting to make major edits to an article, but not wishing to expose the often messy process to our readers, will create a sub-page in the user-space or of the article. This is why you will often see "temp" or "rewrite" sub-pages of articles, and "sandbox", "drafts", "lab" or "scratch-pad" in user-space.

The use of a sub-page by no means excludes editors from editing the actual article. It is the responsibility of anyone using a sub-page for a rewrite to incorporate any changes made to the article. I have changed the html comment that Tony placed in the article to reflect this. I have also posted a brief explanation on the article's talk page.

I don't believe any wiki-principles (which you seem to strongly support) are being compromised. And, as mentioned, this is not unusual. Ideally, it would be nice to have editors make changes to an article incrementally without need for a sub-page. Hopefully, however, you understand why it was necessary in this case. Tony is a newbie, so let him so leeway. If you have any further concerns, please let me know. Thanks, --Cyberjunkie | Talk 09:32, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

Australia

Hi, Cyberjunkie. I'm sorry, but it is my understanding that there is a standing policy, (perhaps unwritten), that articles featured on the Main Page not be protected. Typically, the RC Patrolers are extra aware of the day's featured articles, and do what they can to prevent vandalism. Sorry, Functce,  ) 17:33, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

I wasn't aware there was any general feeling against protecting FA's on the Main Page. Sure, I don't think editors support protecting them for the entire period, but I think it's still acceptable to protect them briefly for stability. Such occured recently when Tasmanian Devil was on the Main Page. It appears the vandals lost interest soon after I left, anyways, so it wasn't really necessary after all. Thanks for keeping an eye of the article. Happy editing :),--Cyberjunkie | Talk 13:25, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

Canberra

Hi, I decided Canberra would be a pretty easy article to FAC-a-fy. I decided on a modified Mexico City Infobox, what do you think? --nixie 11:19, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

Although the infobox has evolved several times since your message was posted, I thought I'd let you know that I do very much like it. However, I prefer the previous colour-scheme, that is, that which was used before the present green. I wonder if there are any amongst us that can produce more detail maps? Also, I was wondering how the government section might work for other Australian cities. It's a bit difficult for them because we tend to think of Australian cities in terms of their metropolitan areas, which are split betwixt many LGAs. Is it acceptable to just represent the council of the city proper? Perhaps economic details could be added as well (or to replace government), though they might be difficult to come across. Once again, great work! --Cyberjunkie | Talk 16:14, 25 August 2005 (UTC)

I thought the light blue was kind of bland, but I'm not fussed either way, the green made that map stand out a bit more that in did. I've asked Martyman to make a better map since he seems to active again and is a good map maker, so I'll prpbably revise the colour sceme again if there is a new map. For government and population - I think this model works well since there is the possibility to list a couple, for example take Sydney, for population you could have pop of the LGA and pop of the metropolitan area, in the government section you can have mayor and then a list of the LGA's or a link to a list of LGA's for that metro area if there are more than 4 or 5.--nixie 08:03, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

LGAs and suburbs

Sorry, I got confused between LGA and suburbs because Bankstown is both an LGA and a suburb. Is there a system for distinguishing between the two? Newhoggy 13:23, 23 August 2005 (UTC)

That's okay. There isn't an alternative for suburbs, and I don't really think there needs be. Melbourne suburbs use an adjacency template which indicates neighbouring suburbs, but that's about it. We do have various city infoboxes, as can be seen in Adelaide and Canberra, but none have been adopted as standard, as with the US.
There can be some confusion between LGA's and suburbs when the posses the same common name. Where there is such an incident, the LGA's official name is used. At least, that's the case for New South Wales I think. For South Australian LGA's, we use the official name regardless. There also cases where the suburb or town article is also the article for the corresponding LGA. It's a shame that we do not have consistency or a stated convention for this yet. Perhaps this is something you might like to raise at the Australian Wikipedians' Notice Board.--Cyberjunkie | Talk 13:36, 23 August 2005 (UTC)

What to do?

I was randomly looking at articles. I found that the following page Kayserispor appears to be entirely in Turkish(?) What is one supposed to do about that? Avalon 01:45, 28 August 2005 (UTC)

Hi Avalon. When one comes across an article that appears to be un-encyclopædic or un-intelligible, it should be proposed for deletion. This is done under a process called Vfd or Votes for deletion. Only articles and some Wikipedia-space pages are deleted under Vfd. Templates, images and categories are deleted via Tfd, Ifd and Cfd respectively. Some pages qualify for speedy deletion, including inappropriate or vanity articles. However, it is best to use that process only if you are familiar with what qualifies for speedy deletion.
Deletion can be quite an emotive issue on Wikipedia as it can only be carried out by Administrators and is in most cases irreversible. At present, Vfd is having quite a polarising effect, with Wikipedians forming "like-minded" groups such as the Inclusionists, the Deletionists and the Mergists. Generally, I shy away from Vfd lest I become involved in one of the more controversial deletions. I typically only voice my opinion on Australia-related Vfd's. However, don't let this perturb you. The great majority of deletions pass without even a smidgen of discontent.
But I digress. To get back to your query, I have nominated Kayserispor for deletion (see Wikipedia:Pages for deletion/Kayserispor to vote). It might have qualified for speedy deletion, but foreign language pages on this English Wikipedia are best put to Vfd with the hope that someone can translate them.--Cyberjunkie | Talk 09:00, 28 August 2005 (UTC)

Thank you. I have found articles that somebody else put up for deletion and voted, but I've not put any up myself and would be a bit hesitant to do so. Avalon 09:48, 28 August 2005 (UTC)

Sorry I wasn't around to help. (Although I doubt I would've been able to do anything directly - as I'm not an admin). I believe you are correct in your assumption that this is one user editing through multiple sock puppets. His behaviour is particularly offensive. No Wikipedian should be subject to such appalling intimidation. This is not disimilar to the whole neo-Nazi saga (from WikiEN-l), accept in this case it was far more personal, and on-site. Re: Suburbs infobox

Thanks Cyberjunkie. On an unrelated topic, is there a short way of doing my signature like you do yours? ie. have a "Talk" link. "Cyberjunkie | Talk 13:09, 29 August 2005 (UTC)". Thanks. -- Newhoggy 08:34, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Sign your posts on talk pages. That page discusses customisation of signatures. I use a fairly common format. As the abovelinked page will tell you, that format is achieved by typing the following "nickname]] [[User_talk:UserName|(talk)", reconfigured with your username of course. Some Wikipedians are quite creative with their signatures. I myself used a "rich format" sig for a while. Good luck, --Cyberjunkie | Talk 09:37, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

What happened was that I accidentally moved Template:Wikiportal:Australia/Did you know to Template:Kiportal:Australia/Did you know when I was trying to move it to Template:Portal:Australia/Did you know. Because I want the page history retained, I'd like for Template:Kiportal:Australia/Did you know to be moved back to Template:Wikiportal:Australia/Did you know. After that, both Template:Portal:Australia/Did you know and Template:Kiportal:Australia/Did you know can be deleted. Don't worry about any redirects - I'll try and fix them myself. RE: Ratio fix

I've done Image:Kevin Rudd.JPG. You're probably getting incorrect ratios resulting from a setting in your capture program. Widescreen images are generally transmitted in the stretched fashion to exploit all the available bandwidth, and are only squashed down to their correct ratio at our end. Perhaps in capture mode, your card isn't doing this.

To correct it, take the width of the uncorrected picture and divide it by the correct aspect ratio (which is normally 1.78 for widescreen). The number you get is the correct height. Open the image in any editing program (even windows paint will do!), uncheck the box that says something like "constrain proportions", enter the correct height in the height box, et voila!. Speedy redirect

I'm curious about your reasoning on Sean Federline. Do you not think a redirect is right, or do you think the AfD process should never be short-circuited? I've seen speedy keeps, speedy deletes, and redirects happen to things on AfD. I don't see that this is a bad thing. Also, FWIW, I can't find any "rule" saying not to redirect things that are on AfD. I did, however, find on the AfD page, "If a page can serve as a useful redirect or be merged somewhere, do not list it here. Doing so only clutters AfD." I couldn't agree more.

Anyway, I'm certainly not going to revert back or anything, but I don't see a good reason to not redirect things on AfD again, either. For example, I did the same thing on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vermicula and nobody has disagreed yet. I believe in being bold, but I don't want to cause static either, so I'm curious what your thoughts are on this. FWIW, there's a bit more explanation I invite you to read (or even edit), here. Friday (talk) 14:52, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

To be frank, I am really not willing to engage in an extended discussion on deletion policy. I tend to stay away from Afd altogether because of the friction it causes and its often confrontational manner. Further, I am on Wikibreak. However, I'll attempt to briefly respond to your points.
Firstly, I think you're not completely understanding the Afd process or the concept of a consensus generally. Articles are submitted to Afd in an attempt to seek consensus on what to do with them - whether it be delete or keep, or even merge, redirect or transwiki. Once articles have entered the Afd process, they must be allowed to run their course - which, as stated on Afd, is usually 5 days. (The exception being if articles submitted should have been listed as candidate's for speedy deletion; this is done to avoid un-necessary backlog). And it is precisely because of this the {{afd}} notice states "You are welcome to edit this article, but please do not blank this article or remove this notice while the discussion is in progress." Please take note of this in future.
If over the course of its listing - again, usually five days, but can also be either longer or shorter depending on whether consensus is overwhelming or lacking - a consensus is formed to redirect, then the closing admin may take that action. But only after, not during.
I placed the article on Afd because I sought consensus for deletion. However, if the consensus is against the proposed deletion, then I am equally happy because it will have been what the community decided. If you think an article proposed for deletion would be better replaced by a redirect, than indicate that in the discussion. Please do not unilaterally take it upon yourself to achieve that end. As for Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vermicula, perhaps no-one has objected because they are not as vigilant as I? I recommend you restore the article and wait for the discussion to finish.--Cyberjunkie | Talk 15:56, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
Basically, I'd agree with Friday, in that while we used to always wait the five days, speedy redirects and things (where the outcome is clear) are not necessarily discouraged these days, so as to lessen the load on AFD. If you think the result is still unclear, then you're entirely within your rights to revert, though. Ambi 05:46, 17 September 2005 (UTC)
If an overwhelming consensus is formed in under five days, then I am not opposed to the supported action being performed. However, in this case, the article was redirected without consensus. I had suggested delete, and Friday not only thought redirect, he had redirected before anyone else had commented. That, I think, is inappropriate - it is unilateral and defeats the purpose of the process. A review of the discussion a day later shows a general consensus to redirect and thus, I am un-opposed to that happening. But to do so without discussion (ie, at least more than two people), was wrong.--Cyberjunkie | Talk 06:01, 17 September 2005 (UTC)
That's entirely understandable - when a consensus has not been reached, it's somewhat pre-emptive to go ahead and redirect the article. Ambi 14:14, 17 September 2005 (UTC)

Women

Take a look at [User:Petaholmes/Sandbox/Women and government in Australia this], one of the reasons I still haven't dropped it in the main namespace is that I still can't think of a name for the article. Any suggestions?--nixie 06:09, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

Australian Head of State Arb Com

On Talk:Government_of_Australia you wrote: It has been resolved. This issue is outdated, although Astrokey is welcome to express his opinion. --Cyberjunkie | Talk 12:00, 19 September 2005 (UTC) Can you please point me to where the Arbitration Commission dealt with the question of how we report Australia's Head of State as opposed to the issues surrounding edits by user:Skyring? I don't feel the issue is outdated, nor obviously does user:Astrokey since he reraised it. The issue has been clouded by the engagement of one editor and the reactions of other editors to him. It may be that since that editor is at present obviously posting frequently from anon IP addresses now is not the time to reopen. Thanks--AYArktos 20:12, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

Hiya AYArktos. I'm not entirely sure why you don't think this has been resolved? The Rfar was initiated against Skyring in large part because he would not accept the consensus. It was resolved among editors at Government of Australia that Skyring's (perhaps purposefully) flawed understanding/argument was incorrect, but that a view of the G-G as HoS was held by a large enough minority to be noted in the article - without extending it any credence. Astrokey's vote concurs with that resolution; I'm not sure why he chose to state it after-the-event.--Cyberjunkie | Talk 04:42, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

RE: VOTE!! - HDI in country infobox/template?

Hi! Thanks for your vote and comments. I've placed the notice to vote on any pages where human development issues/HDI may be relevant (usually, but not exclusively, where links are present) and -- as well -- on the Canadian members notice board; if I've erred (though am unsure how, if at all), I apologise. However, this vote campaign is to garner as wide -- and relevant -- a consensus as possible to support or deny the HDI's inclusion in the infobox. Make sense? Feedback? Thanks again! E Pluribus Anthony 03:41, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

No, I don't think you've erred. But I don't think its necessary to advertise as extensively as you plan/have. You might like to list the poll at Wikipedia:Current_surveys, although I'm not entirely certain it matches the criteria for inclusion. --Cyberjunkie | Talk 04:24, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
Hi there! Thanks for the info; I'm willing to take some flak. Note, though, that Flammifer's removal was reverted by another user, so to each his own. Political infoboxes

Just a thought. Should the infoboxes specify that they are naming the "federal leader" as the parties also have state leaders? Xtra 07:31, 23 September 2005 (UTC)

Hi Xtra. I don't think so, although that's something that the new infobox could do. At present, it's no different from the old box except for the "see also" section and the colours. The box is used for State-based parties also, so any specification could be difficult in that regard. Perhaps the best thing to do is just create articles for the State branches of the main parties.--Cyberjunkie | Talk 07:46, 23 September 2005 (UTC)
