Cybuster

The Cybuster (サイバスター) is a fictional robot in the Super Robot Wars series.

It was the first Banpresto original mecha created for the series. Its pilot, Masaki Andoh, was the first original character. Both of them made their debut in Super Robot Wars 2 as a playable unit. Cybuster has also appeared in Super Robot Wars Gaiden: Masō Kishin The Lord of Elemental, the Super Robot Wars Alpha series and the Super Robot Wars Original Generation series.

[edit] Appearance

Cybuster is a bird-like humanoid mecha, composed primarily of titanium silver. Some parts of its body, such as the interior part of its armor and its hands, are coloured silver. It has red in its crest and other parts of the body, as well as some green crystals. Cybuster's claws are yellow. Cybuster has three pairs of wings extending from its back, and a tail that becomes the head of the Cybird. It is armed with a mecha-sized sword, called the Discutter (Zephyr Sword in the English localization).

[edit] Technical And Historical

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The Cybuster was one of the four Masō Kishin (Elemental Machine God, Elemental Lord in the US version) developed by the Langran Kingdom. Due to its blessing by the God of the Wind, Cyfis, it was dubbed "The Elemental Lord of the Wind". It is one of the seventeen Masōki (Elemental Machines) designed by Wendy Rasm Ignart, to fight the revival of the God of Destruction, Jashin Volkruss and its minions. This Masō Kishin is one of the fastest units created and the only one to gain the ability to transform.

The machine is powered by a Fulcanelli-type eternal engine, operating off the "Prana", or lifeforce, of the pilot. Its armor is constructed out of Orichalconium (presumably based on the legendary material orichalcum), arranged in such a way that the arrangement of its particles and geometrical structure provide magical protection to the unit. The Cybuster is mechanically similar to the other Masōki, except for the fact that its systems are governed by the Laplace's demon Computer, sought-after by the various factions for its ability to predict the future.

At full possession, an event that "fuses" the blessing God and the pilot of a Masō Kishin, enhancing its power at the fullest, Cybuster could directly manipulate the Akashic Records, gaining complete control over the Principle of Cause and Effect.

During one of its early appearances on Earth the Earth Federation designated this mech as AGX-005, which was later declared a misnomer, seeing that the Cybuster was also fighting against the Aerogaters.

Cybird Mode

[edit] Transformation

The unit is capable of a more flight-beneficial mode known as the "Cybird", a bird-like ship mode, enhancing its already terrifying speed of movement to make it one of the fastest mecha in existence.

In Cybird mode, however, only a select few weapons are enabled. (see below)

[edit] Special Ability

In his second battle against Granzon in La Gias, Cyfis , through the Spirit Dependancy Link, was able to possess the Cybuster, granting it -- and by extension, its pilot, Masaki -- nearly godlike power, which was then used to defeat Shuu. This however nearly drained Masaki completely of prana, something that would have been fatal had Masaki possessed the prana reserve of a 'normal' person and not received a first-aid prana transfer from Wendy.

In Super Robot Wars Alpha and Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden, Cyfis can perform a lesser form of possession, which grants less power but doesn't cause a near-fatal drain of prana.

While not reflected in-game (except in Super Robot Wars Gaiden), Cybuster is equipped with the Self-Regeneration System, allowing to repair itself. It is also able to travel between La Gias and surface world on its own.

[edit] Specifications

Height: 28.48m

Weight: 38.4t

Weapon Systems:

  • Caloric Missile:
A standard high class missile weapon of La Gias, used against most long-ranged opponents. In Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden, Caloric missiles are revealed to be energy projectiles instead of physical ones. This weapon can be used in Cybird mode.
  • Discutter:
The standard sword of Langran Wind Masōki. It is made out of Zol Orichalconium (refined Orichalconium) Alloy. Masaki uses the Cybuster's speed to strike the target with his sword for high damage. In Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden, it is revealed that Cybuster actually summons the sword instead of unsheathing it. It was called Zephyr Sword in the US version.
  • Vanity Ripper:
An upgraded Discutter. Everything destroyed by the Vanity Ripper disintegrates into dust. This attack is only seen in Super Robot Wars Gaiden.
  • Familiar:
Pair of remote weapons, which rush toward the target, flying around it and striking it from various angles similar to funnel weapon from Gundam. The Cybuster's Familiar launches energy-based projectile. These aren't controlled by Masaki, but by his familiars, the cats Kuro and Shiro. This weapon is only seen in Super Robot Wars Gaiden.
  • High Familiar:
Upgraded version of the standard Familiars. This weapon can be used in Cybird mode.
  • Akashic Buster:
One of the unit's more powerful attacks, it seems more fantasy-based rather than technological. Cybuster would stab the ground with its sword, creating a pentagram and starts to gather Prana. The gathered Prana will then be channeled to the sword. The Prana would then be unleashed from sword in the form of a bird made of flames, and would destroy the helpless victim, if not seriously damaging it.
  • Akashic Buster (True Version):
An upgraded Akashic Buster. The Cybuster draws a pentagram in mid-air with its sword, summoning the bird made of flames, then gathers Prana on its body. Collecting and acquiring a huge amount of it, the Cybuster would rush forwards and transform in Cybird mode and chase the flaming bird, merging with it, crashing to its target.
  • Cosmo Nova:
Cybuster's usual ultimate attack; it creates four glowing spheres of Prana, originating from the Cybuster's arms, and they are hurled at the target. The target is engulfed by the energy and obliterated. It's one of the more powerful weapons ever installed in a mecha, but unfortunately it can be only used once before Cybuster need to be recharged.
  • Discutter, Ranbu No Tachi (Fervent Dancing Sword):
A powerful final attack that Masaki learns later on, after extensive training in the Dimension of the Elements and mastering it. Pulling out the Cybuster's sword, Masaki would channel an immense amount of Prana into Cybuster, which would be infused with the Masō Kishin's body. The Cybuster would then charge towards the target at high speed attacking the target so viciously and rapidly with the sword that an illusion is generated so that multiple Cybuster appear to be striking the target from all directions, its vapor trails creating the image of a pentagram. After forming the pentagram, the Cybuster would end the attack with a swift straight slash, finally ripping the helpless target into ribbons. This attack is seen in Super Robot Wars Gaiden and Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden.
  • Cyflash:
Probably the most notable weapon at Masaki's disposal, it is a large, spherical burst of Prana that originates from the Cybuster's sword, destroying all enemies surrounding it in a large area. The fact that this weapon can be used while moving at full speed and only causes damage to enemies whilst leaving allies in the area of effect unharmed, and is also able to be used in Cybird mode, makes it one of the more useful MAP weapons in the SRW series.
  • Akashic Breaker:
A simultaneous attack of Cybuster's deadly Akashic Buster and the R-1's T-Link Knuckle. Cybuster transforms into Cybird then does the Akashic Buster. While Cybird glides in the air coated with flames, R-1 jumps, rides on Cybird and charges its knuckle. In one blow, both units plunge into the unfortunate enemy. R-1 causes major damage to the enemy by giving one lethal punch and Cybird finishes the job by colliding and roasting it together. This attack is only seen in Super Robot Wars Alpha DC.
