Cyberdeck
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A cyberdeck is fictional piece of computer hardware that characters in cyberpunk science fiction use to access virtual reality computer networks (cyberspace). For example, in William Gibson's novel Neuromancer, the main character, Case, accesses the 'matrix' (the cyberspace analogue in the series)through a cyberdeck manufactured by a corporation called Ono Sendai. Unlike computers of today, which use keyboards and monitors for the users to communicate with, cyberdecks are imagined to be connected straight to the brain, either through transdermal electrodes or implanted I/O port. In this way, they are brain to machine interfaces. Thus, in any cyberpunk scenario, cyberspace appears as an alternate world, because the cyberdeck creates the image of a world in the user's mind. Another malignant form of cyberdeck may be the hardware used to the connect to the Matrix, in the Matrix movie series.
