[edit] Feedback on {{catdiffuse}}

[edit] Dance/Club music artists

I'm planning to break the list of artists down by subcategory: The duos, groups and project acts are going to the new Category:Dance musical groups listing. I also might make some modification with Dance music artists by breaking them down by sub-genre and gender. Robert Moore 22:37, 03 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for {{catdiffuse}}

Hello there. Thanks very much for putting the {{catdiffuse}} tag at the top of the Islam category page; I also noticed you put it elsewhere - is it a new tag ? I've never seen it before. It's certainly very useful, as I get very annoyed constantly telling people to put articles in the right category. Thanks again. MP (talk) 21:37, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Left thanks for both users on user pages. Cwolfsheep 23:06, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ChemicalSources

Hi! First, thanks for your move of DCPIP, good job. I see on your userpage that you are a programmer, and I was wondering if you could help us. Within the Chemicals projects we are for some time looking for a programmer; we are looking for someone who would be capable to make a 'copy' of the Special:ISBN page (see also Wikipedia:Book sources). The copy should load Wikipedia:Chemical sources. That page is now a repository for external links of institutions and companies, I have done some deeplinking into some of the pages, where possible (stopped with that, because, well, maybe it is impossible and all that work would be for nothing .. vide infra). Most chemicals have some unique identifiers, mainly the CAS number, InChI, but also things like chemical formula or SMILES are possible. Shortly, we would like to have a page like the Special:ISBN, which could take a number of parameters (say, CAS, INCHI, MOLFORM, etc.), and would then load Wikipedia:Chemical sources with the appropriate links (making use of a set of MAGIC-numbers). I hope I wrote my question clear (I'm not much of a programmer, though I do understand most of the basic techniques), and I hope you can help us, would you be able to write the code, and find a way of hardcoding that into the Wikipedia machine? Thanks again, and hope to hear from you. --Dirk Beetstra T C 15:22, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

  1. I may be a programmer, but I've only barely hacked MediaWiki. I would recommend visiting meta.wikimedia.org and suggesting this there. Cwolfsheep 15:46, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
OK, I'll have a look. Cheers anyway! --Dirk Beetstra T C 15:51, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! Cwolfsheep 15:52, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vahan Gevorgyan

Why did you remove Category:Formerly stateless people from Vahan Gevorgyan article? According to Polish Wikipedia (pl:Vahan Gevorgyan), he received Polish citizenship on May 20, 2003. Before that he had been a stateless person. Jacek Kendysz 19:58, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

That may have been accidental, as I was having trouble cleaning up the stateless people group. Due apologies. Cwolfsheep 02:37, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
OK, I've just added Category:Formerly stateless people to Vahan Gevorgyan again. :) Jacek Kendysz 11:40, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Unusual conflicts

Hi, this seems to be a rather POV category, at least as currently named. I'm not categorically opposed to this, but at the very least it should probably have a better name and explicit criteria for inclusion. I'm placing this on WP:CFD. Cheers. olderwiser 12:31, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Funny you should say that: while you were posting this, I was putting up some criteria. Cwolfsheep 12:33, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Well, let's see where the discussion goes. These are "interesting" conflicts so they could be worth keeping as some sort of category. olderwiser 12:39, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
I had found some of them this morning, and others I found in browsing border dispute articles in the past. Cwolfsheep 12:41, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] integration userbox

Thanks for the userbox thing, I put it up. Fresheneesz 05:38, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

No problem! Cwolfsheep 13:17, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What are you doing?

Your "step" template is way off because it implies a linear progression that doesn't really exist. For example, the Web as created by Berners-Lee drew concepts from the Virtual Notebook System (like the term "page"), HyperCard, Xanadu, and many others, not just his own project, ENQUIRE. No professional historian of technology would describe the advance of technology as linear! Please study a book on the social construction of technology. I recommend Wiebe Bijker's Bulbs, Bicycles and Bakelites, though Bijker's work is very difficult to understand. --Coolcaesar 16:31, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

In the time you spent berating me for my action, you could have "fixed" it yourself and removed this progression series. Otherwise, the linear progression model has been accepted in other article streams. Cwolfsheep 17:44, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] TIES

Would you mind posting on the Time Independent Escape Sequence talk page what portions you find confusing? I would like to clean it up, but it seems to read OK to me. Maury 20:22, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Its not as confusing as it was the first time I saw it. I've pulled the tag. Cleanup as you see fit. :) Cwolfsheep 23:14, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Ok cool. Actually I was pretty happy to know that anyone had actually seen it! Maury 02:04, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Hurricane gordon 2006 cat3.jpg listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Hurricane gordon 2006 cat3.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. – Chacor 09:47, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

I listed it because there's an image, taken at the same time, available on NRL in higher-resolution which I've uploaded to commons at Image:Gordon 105 kt 2006-09-14.jpg. – Chacor 09:47, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

That's fine with me: I saw it come online at the same time. :) Cwolfsheep 12:22, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Stateless people

See my proposal at Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_September_24#Category:Stateless_people to alter some changes you made. Thanks. jnestorius(talk) 06:05, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bush's second term article

I agree that the neutrality of the article is probably compromised, and I am most likely guilty for much, if not most, of it. I will try to work on this, as well as making better references (footnotes?). But I also like to add to the article as events happen, and I wish others would contribute too, but this recently largely has not been the case. Obviously eradicating some of those words would require more extensive research so that the writing can be more precise. Do you have any particular suggestions? Minutiaman 04:31, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

That article will change for however long Bush remains in power. I'd look at the first term article and make some comparisons: that was a bit less fawning. I'm also going through articles looking for Executive Orders he's signed: the original category for EO's wasn't very helpful. Cwolfsheep 04:34, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Removing categories from File Transfer Protocol

Hi,

During your recent edits of article File Transfer Protocol, two categories that were removed from it: [[Category:Internet protocols]] and [[Category:Internet standards]] are actually essential to retain there. I had reverted your edits that have been rejected and hence this message. Do you disagree that FTP is one of the basic application protocol of Internet? My rationale is if someone is browsing these categories, they should be able to find all that falls under that category. I do not see why FTP should get omitted. —Raanoo 05:10, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't disagree, but I was trying to resolve the problem of too many articles being classified as both "Internet Protocols" & "Internet Standards." If there's something you or others can do about that, that would help. Cwolfsheep 11:12, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Microsoft Sam / Microsoft Anna merge ?

I was rather surprised that these pages were merged into the SAPI page. I thought the old pages were fine, and the current SAPI page seems to just becoming a repository of random speech-related stuff. I think there was a discussion and the idea of removing Windows Text-To-Speech was proposed, but I didn't expect every article related to Microsoft Speech was gonna get deleted. I propose re-adding those pages again as I think they are notable unless you disagree. Dave w74 02:39, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Oh, the irony

First, let me say that I like the idea of Wikipedia:WikiProject Integration. Although it is a project of a monumental scope, it would make information significantly easier to locate. I did notice something a little odd, though. It seems that Template:Limbo is in limbo. It appears that it was originally created in response to the discussion here. On 01 MAR 2006, the TfD debate for this template was closed with the words "The result of the debate was delete." Apparently it was deleted, but then on 17 SEP 2006 you created a template with the same name, but with a different purpose in mind, if I'm reading it correctly. The template remains unused, except as a tongue-in-cheek use on a userpage. I was wondering... how do you foresee this template being used in the Integration project? SWAdair 04:11, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your comments, and I can use all the help I can get on WP:INT. As for the Limbo template, the idea came up when I found an article that looked like some analysis, but didn't break any immediate Wikipedia rules that I'm aware of. I'm not a Deletionist by any means: if it looks interesting, it should go somewhere. Cwolfsheep 05:15, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ISBN Numbers

That's no problem. I was actually monitoring linkspam through a new bot that I'm working on with a couple of admins. When I saw multiple Amazon.com links show up, I decided to head over. Whereas most would be trying to add their Amazon.com item to many Wikipedia pages to make more money, I noticed you were simply working on an article. Long story short, don't worry about it too much. The words ISBN ############ next to each other are automatically changed by the server, so there's no need to worry about linking. :) thadius856talk 23:19, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Coolness, and good luck with your bot. I went back over Wikipedia:Tools again, and they're still lacking in what I need for a good edit tool. There was a great Firefox toolbar that supported different functions, but its not maintained very well: I need to try making my own sometime. If you get bored here, I have my own wiki that is mostly links and a few essays at ManyBytesAgo. Cwolfsheep 23:23, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fictional military aircraft

The merged article is a mess, as the different craft have very little to do with each other and would probably be better off in the specific articles for their own fictional sources, like the game or movie that they came from. Plus, it's hopelessly incomplete and indiscriminate if you want to include all fictional military aircraft in the article--where's Airwolf or every plane included in a shmup? Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 17:13, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

The article was meant to clean up clutter, and I can see your point. But my talk page is not the place to complain about it: start a discussion there about fixing it. Thanks. Cwolfsheep 02:10, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] vote banking

In March 05 you merged vote banking into early voting. I've worked in elections for quite a while and never heard these things be synonymous. Further, Google doesn't seem to turn up any supporting evidence either. I'm inclined to rewrite. Please let me know what you think. - Electiontechnology 05:26, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Someone had written a stub and proposed the merge several months before I did it. I didn't see any problem with it at the time. You're welcome to do as you wish as long as it makes sense, as I tell everyone else. Cwolfsheep 18:31, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rogue Software

Thank you for creating this cat. It is one step forward to cleaning up the worst type of infection possible. I have seen people buy these rogue programs. We must put a stop to it. Thank you very much. Pogo 23:53, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

I clean plenty of such crap on systems in my line of work. Now I'm trying to get my workplace migrated to Linux where Windows isn't required. I still run Windows at home 99% of the time, but I can keep up with it & use it for games. Thanks! Cwolfsheep 00:34, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] TfD nomination of Template:Step

Template:Step has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. --Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 07:25, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your editor review

:-) Thanks for the kudos! Keep up the good work. Cheers, Dar-Ape 03:26, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Category about Windows security

I noticed that the Category you created regarding "Windows security", is likely headed for deletion. I understand that categories like this take quite some time to develop and flesh out, yet this particular one appears to be unwelcome at Wikipedia, unless I'm misunderstanding the argument. I hope that you will continue your work here at Wikipedia. However, just so you know, there are also other wikis out there that might very well welcome such a Category project as yours. You might start by looking at Wikia.com, Centiare.com, or PBwiki.com. If you feel that this message is too spammy, you are welcome to delete it from your discussion page. --JossBuckle Swami 02:46, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] re CatDiffuse

Glad to be of help, but, er, what is CatDiffuse? There's no article by that name and I don't recall defending it... Herostratus 05:47, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Followup inquiry crossposted from WikiProject Integration

The merge effort at Cymbal manufacturers is currently dead in the water. Following prodding of some articles on minor cymbal manufacturers, the WP:AMA process led to a tentative recommendation to merge a number of such articles to the above (which presumably should be List of cymbal manufacturers instead). Though I'm not directly involved, I've been trying to bring in people with relevant expertise. WikiProject Integration seemed like a perfect fit, only there seems to be little activity at the moment — thus me coming to ask you directly about this. Can you offer any perspectives, recommendations, or precedents on this situation? Is there a task force established for actual integration of articles? What of the condition of Category:Cymbal manufacturers compared to other manufacturing company categories/lists? –Unint 21:36, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Actually, I see you haven't been active since I made the inquiry. Sorry about potentially jumping the gun (when you read this, anyway). –Unint 21:39, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Sorry I haven't been active last few days: busy with work and such. I'll go over this when I can. Cwolfsheep 02:58, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
