[edit] prod

Regarding the prod tag that was recently added. I've removed the tag and left a note for the original author of the article asking him to expand on the content some. The HAM community isn't as web active as one might expect being that a large number of participants are of the pre-Internet age. Hopefully we can find a few people able to expand on the article a bit. --StuffOfInterest 21:36, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Well, the concern is, are there non-trivial sources, independent of Cuyahoga County Skywarn, that have taken note of it, so we can write a good Wikipedia article on it? I don't know why there would be such sources, and my Google search sort of confirms that. A Lexis-Nexis search yields zero results even in local papers. Do you know whether there are any good sources, and if so where they are? Pan Dan 21:50, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
    • As I'm not in Ohio I'm not familiar with this organization. This is why I've put a request on the original author's talk page asking him to provide some additional information. Otherwise, we might be able to roll up the information into the main Skywarn article or perhaps a List of Skywarn organizations article. Are you familiar with how Skywarn works? They don't tend to be known outside of the amateur radio community as they work behind the scenes with the National Weather Service to report on extreme weather conditions. They are not a PR operatation and thus don't tend to end up in the paper very often. Still, they are not an adhoc grouping either. Skywarn spotters get specific training and have procedures to follow in the event of severe weather. That's why I hope we can get someone more familiar with the local area to help out on the article rather than just pulling the trigger on it. If we can't find enough to flush out this particular article, I'd move towards a multi-merge of any other Skywarn organization articles we can find into one "list of" article. --StuffOfInterest 22:22, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
      • Sounds good. Pan Dan 22:26, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
        • A quick search didn't turn up any other Skywarn organization articles on Wikipedia. Of course, I could have missed them if they didn't have "Skywarn" in their name. I'm going to put merge tags on both this and the Skywarn article so that others can put their opinions in. If nobody has any significant objections we can create a "Skywarn organizations" section in the Skywarn article and let this one be the first entry. I almost always feel that a merge is better than a delete when dealing with real entitities as it doesn't discount legitimate efforts by editors to contribute content. It just reorganizes it. --StuffOfInterest 22:31, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
