Eponychium is the anatomical term for the human cuticle

In biology, cuticle or cuticula is a tough but flexible, non-mineral covering of an organism, or part of an organism. In human anatomy, the cuticle refers to the fold of skin at the base of the fingernail, the eponychium. In zoology, the invertebrate cuticula is a multi-layered structure outside of epidermis of many invertebrates, notably roundworms[1] and arthropods, where it forms an exoskeleton. It is formed by fatty acids with alcohols other than glycerol. In botany, plant cuticles are protective waxy coverings produced by the epidermal cells of leaves, young shoots and all other aerial plant organs.
