Why is this section called "Britain and Ireland" and not the more usual "UK and Ireland"?

I think they did Britain be cause it's more polite.

Why is this section even entitled "Britain and Ireland"? A more suitable title would have been "UK" as it suits Britain and Northern Ireland. There is nothing about the Republic of Ireland in this section. In reality, UK would be a much more fitting title than the misleading Britain and Ireland title it holds currently. (I came in here thinking it contained some events relating to the Republic of ireland, however it does not, therefore shouldn't state Ireland in its title.)

The thing is this page used to be titled British and Irish current events, I'm not really sure why. When I moved it here I wanted it to be a continuation of that page, so that it would link up ok with all the archives, which are at June 2005 in Britain and Ireland etc. If you want to see more Republic of Ireland news on here then add it! We have had a few RoI stories on here in the past but I'll admit nowhere near enough. Then again there hasn't been that much British news on either :-( the wub "?!" 10:21, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

hats probably because atleast 3/4 of wikipedia members live in the US. Also why not 'British Isles'. That includes great Britain (thats an island) with England, Scotland, And wales. Also included is Ireland (the island) with BOTH North, and republic. PS why dont we keep certain articles in proper English (for any Americanes who dont understand this, Englend metaphoricly owns the english language. :-( OsirisV 09:08, 16 January 2007. (UTC)

The official language of Ireland is Irish Galeic - why does the top of the page state Ireland as an english speaking nation? It's only had the english influence because Britain invaded them and the Irish government calls english the 2nd official language. I know this french guy that lives in Dublin shall we list Ireland as a french speaking nation? Waffle247 15:58, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
