Curtis Davies (born March 15, 1985 in Leytonstone, London) is an English professional footballer who plays as a central defender. He is currently the captain of West Bromwich Albion.

[edit] Early Career & Luton Town

He started his career with Wimbledon, as a trainee, at the age of 15. A year later, he was released as Wimbledon became Milton Keynes Dons F.C. He wrote to every club in the local area, including Arsenal, Crystal Palace, QPR and Millwall asking for a trial. The only one to respond was Luton Town. During the trial, he scored two goals in three games and was handed a scholarship straight away. He made his full team debut in 2003.

He made 6 appearances in the league during the 2003/04 season, with the away performance at QPR particularly good. The next season Curtis achieved his first promotion as he appeared in 44 league games for the Hatters, scoring his first senior goal in the title-clinching win at Wrexham. Curtis was awarded the Luton Town Young Player of the Year award for that season, as well as the League One Player of the Year. He also made the League One PFA Team of the Year, alongside 5 of his teammates.

The next season Curtis only managed 6 games, and a goal in his final game at home to Millwall before his impressive display club saw him signed by then-Premiership side West Bromwich Albion on August 31st 2005 for a fee of £3 million.

Davies had an impressive first season for West Brom, making 35 starts and scoring 2 goals. He was also nominated for PFA Young Player of the Year. However, he was unable to stop West Brom being relegated and he has already courted interest from several Premiership teams. On 28 July 2006 he pledged his future to West Bromwich Albion, by signing a new four-year deal.

He made his England under-21 debut on February 28, 2006, against Norway U21s. Arsène Wenger of Arsenal has also admitted he "likes the player" but with Arsenal struggling to meet the debts of the new Emirates stadium, it seems unlikely they will meet the £12 million pound asking fee that is allegedly set by the Albion.[citation needed]. Davies has also drawn great interest from Newcastle United manager Glenn Roeder. Roeder and his No 2 Nigel Pearson were at Molineux at the end of January and saw Davies star in West Brom's 3-0 FA Cup fourth-round victory over their Black Country rivals Wolves. Roeder took advantage of Newcastle United's free weekend to run the rule over Davies, at Middlesbrough.

Although much coveted by a plethora of Premiership Clubs, he has stated he is happy and under contract at the Hawthorns. WBA Chairman, Jeremy Peace, has stated that no player at the club will move unless it's in the interest of West Bromwich Albion. It is therefore likely Curtis will be at the Hawthorns for at least the next 15 months.

Davies received his first-ever red card against Middlesborough FC on 17th February 2007 after receiving 2 yellows card for challenges on Boro striker Mark Viduka.

On Wednesday 14th March 2007, Curtis Davies Broke his fifth metatarsol in the Baggies game against Palace. He has been ruled out for not only the rest of the season, but for the first ever game at the new Wembley- in which he would be playing for England U21's.
