Curtain Road

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Curtain Road is a short road in Shoreditch, London, linking Great Eastern Street with Old Street.

The first theatre by James Burbage, simply called The Theatre, was once situated at 86-88 Curtain Road and included William Shakespeare as an actor. It was pulled down in 1598, and the road gets its name either from another nearby theatre called The Curtain or from a curtain wall that surrounded a local priory.

Nowadays it is a trendy spot that includes many bars and restaurants.
