Cura te ipsum

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cura te ipsum ("Take care of your own self!") is a classic injunction, urging physicians to care for and heal themselves first, before dealing with patients.

This Latin dictum is relevant in many "traditional" societies in which only medicine men who already suffered from a given disease are allowed to cure it.

Cura te ipsum was made famous in the Latin translation of the Bible, the Vulgate. The proverb was ascribed to Jesus, recorded in the Gospel of Luke chapter 4:23. Luke the Evangelist, was himself a physician.
