Cumberland College, Otago
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cumberland College is a Residential College in Dunedin, New Zealand for the University of Otago. Cumberland College (or "Cumbie" to residents) was established as a hall of residence in (approximately) 1992. The hall is located in the building that was originally the residence for nurses training in Dunedin. For this reason Cumberland College is linked by underground tunnels to both the Dunedin hospital and Hayward College.
The current head of college at Cumberland College is Warren Lees, who had been the master of boarders at Otago Boys' High School. Prior to Lees as head of college, the hostel had a reputation for drunkenness and generally low standards. This is subsiding, possibly due to policies and approaches implemented by Lees' leadership[citation needed].
